Summary

From whirlwind romance to gaslighting campaign: this is truth far stranger than fiction.

When Mary met Will Jordan online, she was a single mother who’d given up trying to find Mr. Right. And yet here he suddenly was: articulate and attractive, with a fascinating background. Soon they were in love, and when he proposed after a month it seemed recklessly romantic.

Caught up in a whirlwind, Mary accepted that Will’s work often took him away from home, out of contact. She was his rock, supporting him emotionally when a misunderstanding led to criminal charges, and even selling everything when blackmailers threatened to kidnap their children. Together, they took on the world.

And then one day the phone rang, and a woman introduced herself as ‘the other Mrs. Jordan’…

In this raw account of deception on a grand scale, Mary Turner Thomson recounts what happened after she discovered every word he’d said, from the very first moment, was a lie. This is her painful, humiliating truth - but she tells it for one reason: she too was once a strong, independent woman who would have read all this and thought It could never happen to me…

Shocking and informative

This is one book that I struggled to put down. It's almost unbelievable in parts, and there is a tendency to feel very angry at the author for what seems like her absolute unwillingness to accept reality. But I've come to the conclusion that this man was a consummate professional in his chosen career...that of a serial liar, thief, bigamist and worse. None of us can judge this lady until we have walked in her shoes. I wish her well & thank her for her courage in telling her story. Highly recommended.

Absolute psycho!

This is like the true story of ‘Dirty John’ on Netflix...and then I realised that Dirty John was also a true story.

The story of a man who is multi time married and just trying to lie and cheat money out of women who just want to find love.

Crazy story that is so hard to believe...especially when you know it’s true.

Worth a read if you like true crime.

Just not my thing

Takes a much longer time than I felt necessary to come to the crunch. I feel I could have known just as much about this woman's plight in half the time.

Thought provoking

True story Gripping from start to finish. It make you realise how unsafe normal situations can be. If with the wrong kind of person. Hats off to MTT for sharing her journey. And for not being secretive or ashamed of the turmoil she has been put through. Hopefully a help for others in similar situations

Interesting but difficult to listen to.

I found it an interesting story but one That was difficult to comprehend. Obviously this person was a master manipulator and found one very vulnerable woman to prey on. I am still digesting this story.

lots of lessons to be taken

Mary Turner Thompson is inspirational in how she now views this awful experience that has happened to her and is able to be so positive after the terrible ways she was betrayed and cheated out of so much. Really worth a read to raise awareness of people like her ex husband but also how to very gracefully deal with any of life's challenges!

Don't think this could not happen to you.

Brainwashing works. Con artists (the clue is in the title) are masters of their arts and manipulate each person's vulnerabilities to succeed in their goals. When someone is a compulsive liar, they lie about everything - big and small, but give you no reason to distrust them. In fact the bigger the lie the less likely you are to suspect them. Why would you think someone you love and trust would say such a thing if it isn't true. Do you question everything your husband says everyday? Do you check your friends are telling you the truth about mundane facts? Of course you don't. We have to believe people, especially those we love and trust. If we expected them to harm us from the outset we would never form relationships. This book is a brilliant expose of the way a psychopath works and the author shows tremendous strength in putting such a damaging and ruinous experience behind her.

Wow!

This astounding true story is intricate. intriguing, and nearly unbelievable.... unless you yourself have known a psychopath and/or a malignant narcissist. But it is tie and bully on Mary Turner Thomson for telling her story. First copywrited in 2008, this story continues to unfold as Will Jorden was also convinced in the U.S. in 2013....

The 2nd part of the book, interestingly also sheds light on the duping of an entire nation by a psychopath in the guise of an American President... What happened to Mary also had happened to about 25% of the US population!

in addition, Ms Thompson's elegance in dealing with raising her children not to be victims is a lesson we all can learn from. I'll be taking her tips from Chapter 16 about how to "abuse proof" young children to my daily work in a law office where we deal with predators and sex abuse victims fairly regularly.

Brilliantly Written

This book is a cautionary take about the dangers of online dating as well as not knowing enough about someone you are dating. Background checks may be very helpful in this day and age. The bigamist was the most toxic person I have ever heard of. It is an almost unbelievable story. It is a riveting book.

iNDREDIBLE

I have often wondered how someone could get caught up in something like this. Especially now, as an anti-Trumper, how people could be so drawn and devoted to him. This was a very good book, for the most part she kept to the facts, eliminated the fluff. I now have a better understanding of the con-man.

RECOMMENDATION: READ IT.
