About this listen

Elvis Cole and his enigmatic partner, Joe Pike, race to find a terrifying, unidentified killer in this twisting, unpredictable thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Robert Crais.

Traci Beller was thirteen when her father disappeared in the sleepy town of Rancha, not far from Los Angeles. The evidence says Tommy Beller abandoned his family, but Traci never believed it. Now, ten years later, Traci is a high-profile influencer with millions of followers and the money to hire the best detective she can find: Elvis Cole.

Elvis heads to Rancha where an ex-con named Sadie Givens and her daughter, Anya, might have a line on the missing man. But when Elvis finds himself shadowed by a gang of vicious criminals, the missing persons cold case becomes far more sinister.

Elvis calls his ex-Marine friend, Joe Pike, for help, and they follow Tommy Beller's trail into the depths of a monstrous, hidden evil. The case flips on its head, victims become predators, predators become prey, and the question becomes: Can Elvis Cole save them all from this nightmare?

This is another terrific story by the masterful Robert Crais. Elvis gets into trouble, as usual, and Joe Pike helps to pick up the pieces. You'll hear only an occasional few words from Lucy but the action moves along nicely as Elvis tries to find out what happened to the very popular TV baker who everyone loves. It isn't until almost the end that Elvis works it out and by then it's....Well that's for you to find out. Well worth listening to.

Excellent voice characterisation

This is one of those series and one of those authors I buy without even reading the blurb. Amazing characters, breathtaking pacy plots and a whole lotta heart!

One of THE best series out there!

When I started I thought this would be another one of those wisecracking detective stories and in a way I was right, but it turned out to be a very exciting book with many twists and turns. It didn’t end as I expected either, which is a good thing. The story concerns muffin baker and influencer Traci Beller who is looking for her dad who has been missing for 10 years. She tried to find him before with no luck and has contacted Elvis Cole as a last chance. He wasn’t keen, but she talked him into taking on the case. Elvis heads to Rancha where he learns an ex-con named Sadie Givens and her daughter, Anya, might know something about the missing man. However, Elvis himself is followed by some vicious criminals who put him in the hospital and that’s when he asks for help from the friend Joe Pike. It gets a lot more complicated and dangerous from there….This was really well read—making the characters come alive. I especially liked the way he read Pike’s character.
