When a young woman is offered as tribute to a feared beast king, she expects death. Not a bond that could break the kingdom's curse.

Isabella prefers books over people and keeps to herself, especially in a pride that sees her and her eccentric inventor father as little more than burdens. When the time comes for the annual sacrifice to the terrifying Beast King, whispers start that her father will be next.

Desperate to protect him, Isabella agrees to marry the pride heir in exchange for her father’s safety, despite him not being her fated mate. But promises are broken, and her father is chosen, anyway.

There’s only one thing left for her to do. Offer herself to the Beast King in her father’s place, in hopes of saving her last remaining family member.

But nothing inside the cursed castle is what it seems. Not the curse, not the King, and certainly not the truth behind the sacrifices. Secrets prowl the shadows, and the so-called monster might just have a soul worth saving.

Can Isabella survive the castle’s mysteries long enough to break the curse and maybe even win the Beast King's heart?

A Closed Door Beauty and the Beast retelling featuring a cursed lion shifter king, a quiet bookish heroine, and a slow-burn fantasy romance with fated mates. Book one in the Of Lions and Roses series.

I got this book for free, so I figured I’d leave a review.

I’m going to be honest, this really isn’t my usual kind of book. I’m not really a fan of this type of story or movie. Think Beauty and the Beast and you can pretty much see where this book is going at the start.

But, that being said, there is more to it by the end. You can tell the story is trying to become its own thing and there are quite a few threads and plot points that the author could take in different directions, which I found quite interesting.

There were a few times where I thought the book was just repeating itself and going over the same things again, it was more that we were seeing the same point from a different perspective. And honestly, that was done pretty well.

This was also the first time I’ve listened to C. L. Arabelle as a narrator and I thought she was really good. She definitely helped keep me going and made me want to finish the book, which is kind of funny because I wasn’t all that into it at the start.

So, in the end, I did enjoy it more than I thought I would, and it actually changed my mind a bit about the book.

Would I suddenly go and start reading loads of books in this genre? no (It’s just not really my thing).

But if you do like this kind of fantasy/romance, then I think you’ll probably like the book.

Think Beauty and the Beast

I was kindly gifted this audiobook; thank you to the author and narrator! This story did take a while to get into its flow and at times it felt repetitive, especially the mfc’s inner dialogue. I still enjoyed the listen and am intrigued by how the rest of the series may continue. Thank you again, Tasha Creed and C. L. Arabelle!

An interesting take on the classic “Beauty and the Beast” tale.
