Depressing but mesmerising!

If like me, you have an autoimmune disorder that the doctors simply have no answer for other than drugs or surgery then this book could well be the solution. I've searched high and low for support and advice on how to handle disorders which are debilitating, distressing and quite frankly frightening, without much success. I randomly came across this and glad I did. Listened to 6 hours straight as I was mesmerised by the similarities and found myself nodding in agreement throughout. I have ordered a lot of supplements off the back of this book. I'll be starting the diet this week, and will update on my progress. In short - if you have an autoimmune disorder this book will resonate, and if like me you're at your wits end - there's no harm in following the simple nutrition and supplementation programme to (hopefully) get you back to good health.

Good info but...

I enjoyed this book after I managed to get over the narrators voice which I can only describe as Disney-cute-robot-in-breathy-sexy mode, yea cringeworthy! She sounds just like Hank Moody's daughter, ugh. Anyway, the info in the book is by no means original or ground breaking but it's presented well with some good science bits for the geek in us. Dr. Myers also goes into lifestyle changes where other books tend not to; air filtration for example. Great to see another MD jumping on the Functional Medicine band wagon.

If u have health issues read this

Yes it's a bit over the top of a diet but Iv been living with all sorts of strange health issues for years and this definitely helps it and so much of what Amy says just makes sense
It's just annoying that other people can get away with eating gluten etc etc and live a Fairly normal life

the mayers way dosent support plant based

To be honest I was shocked about the amount of meat in this diet plan.

I appreciate the information about toxins in our enviromnet and the science behind most of the information except for extreme meat eating (breakfast, lunch and dinner) all studies shows that extensive meat eating increases inflammation.

I enjoyed the book, good advice on diet mangment in social gatherings and dealing with drs when you have chronic conditions.

I felt the book included a lot of bragging about personal success rather than the reader.
I will look for more books on the topic that are not as focused on the writers brand name advertising.

Meat is not healthy

I enjoyed the informative depth of this book, however throughout the book Myers explains to reduce inflammatory foods from the diet to heal, I agree with a lot of what she says, however meat is an inflammatory food, fact, and I don’t agree it is healthy. It has been linked to diabetes and many many diseases, one of many being heart disease. Atherosclerotic plaque builds up in the arteries potentially leading to a heart attack and stroke. Yes everything she explains about gluten makes sense and I’m sure it would reverse autoimmune disorder, but converting to eating meat will cause a whole host of other problems. I also think it is very controversial that she talks about how she doesn’t like to kill an animal, but does it because ‘the human body is designed to eat meat’, which again isn’t true. I think we are all different and can’t all go by one ‘diet’. If you have to disguise meat in your meal because you hate the idea of meat then surely you shouldn’t eat it? If you are put off then use your intuition. I have been vegan for 6 years and healed my skin from acne and healed my gut, I am no longer anaemic and have so much energy. I also take probiotics and don’t eat gluten. I eat fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and legumes. Sometimes grains but always gluten free and rarely. I feel very well! And happy, I believe if you eat good quality organic local GMO free food, homemade, not processed, then that is all you need. High carb, low fat is what the body favours, fact. High fat causes a lot of problems unfortunately this paleo, Keto is a FAD. See https://nutritionfacts.org Dr Gregor :-) he goes through and explains real clinical studies and what they mean.

You are what you consume

The voice was sometimes a bit like and automated voice, perfect American.
The evidence could be more complete, but it's at least as authoritative as your GP's 5 minutes.
Dr Myers, while continually promoting herself and her way, with anecdotes of when her patients came in broken and left fixed, tells a lot of truths about the need for lifestyle change to best autoimmunity.
If you have rheumatoid arthritis or another autoimmune disease it's ESSENTIAL reading/listening. For anyone interested in avoiding these diseases of our age, it is also excellent background awareness.

A solution for insomnia

I had high hopes for what I could learn from this book. However, it soon becomes repetitive, uninspiring and feels like a sales pitch. There’s nothing that you can’t learn from the many websites on anti inflammatory diets. I ended up listening at bed time as the lady rambles on such much she became my sleep solution for insomnia.

Interesting but narrator has an annoying voice!

What did you like best about The Autoimmune Solution? What did you like least?

I should have read some reviews before purchasing. I am only a few hours in, the subject is really interesting but I am not sure I will make it to the end with the annoying narrator, who speaks in quite a strange manner. I am British, the narrator is American (I am guessing)...if that bothers you then don't buy the audible version of this book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Changed the narrator and the style of how the book is presented.

How could the performance have been better?

Different voice.

Must read!!!!!

Everyone should read this. Not just those with "autoimmune" disease. Amazing. Anyone who has somewhat depleted immunity or is at the nasty diseases end of the spectrum.
