Summary

After the death of her grandmother, reluctant heiress Madilyn Marak agrees to stay with her grandfather at the estate for the summer. There, she finds an old diary hidden in an antique desk in the attic—The Apple Diary—written by her great-grandmother Isabel.

In there, she finds the love story of Isabel and Lorah, along with a photograph of the two young women from 1933. The diary, like the love affair, was short and brief, but rich and vivid enough for her to feel a true bond with the women despite the heartbreaking ending.

She is determined to get Isabel's beloved apple orchard vibrant again. She hires the inexperienced Dylan Hayes, a woman soon to be homeless, to take on the chore of restoring the orchard to its original glory.

The normally quiet and reserved Madilyn finds a new joy in life as she becomes friends with the outgoing and energetic woman who has come to live on the property. As she is transformed from a stoic and passive heiress to a happy and spirited woman, she realizes the similarities of her journey and that of Isabel's.

Like Isabel, is she destined to marry a man she doesn't love? Or will she find the strength that eluded Isabel and follow her heart?

Secret lives

Oh to be so talented to be able to write such stories.i feel like I have looked into someone’s private diary (thoughts) and shared the most intimate moments. At the end of the book I feel as if I’ve lost family no more words! Fabulous Gerri Hill can’t wait for my next one of your books.

apple orchard

great story however i think it was cut to short. hopefully a series can be started as both individuals are young and have means to do plenty with the land and foundation.

This is a fantastic touching beautiful romance that has crossed through time and generations. It so lovely and tender that my heart melted and I felt the pain of loss and the joy of love. ♥️

A gentle romance with a lesson to seize the moment

Gerri Hill has not written one book I don't like yet and this one fitted my current need for gentle, sweet romance in a place that feels real and with characters who feel real. I wish it was because I would love to visit with the beautiful nature and all the history but at least I will be able to visit the audiobook again.

Unfortunately I did not much care for Abby Craden's narration. I nearly always find her too OTT and her snickering giggles in this, which sounded like a precocious 6 year old, were especially irritating but even she could not wreck this one for me.

Feel good factor with a light sprinkling of heart-wrenching tragedy 😃

Gerri Hill really does know how to pull at the old heart-strings... an absolute master at it.
Even though there is a terribly sad historic love story running throughout, this is a beautifully crafted HEA for the modern day characters.
Thank.
God.
Yet another gorgeous story narrated to perfection by AC. Happy days :-)

Didn’t disappoint

I pre-ordered this book as I’ve loved Gerri Hill’s books but then I couldn’t bring myself to listen to it in case I was disappointed and then there were the reviews which made me even more reticent as good reviews don’t always mean good books. Anyway, I gave in today and finished today and loved every minute. I know this is a book I’ll come back to when I want a gentle and loving listen and allow those dreams to reignite!

Connection to the past.

What a lovely story connecting the past history to the present, couldn’t stop listening to it, you really feel for them, the sadness of the past but the joy of the present knowing there is a future this time x
