About this listen

On a visit to the US things take a strange turn for 12-year-old Ajay when, completely at random and totally by accident, he is sworn in as the new president. Well, I guess he can't be any worse than that guy who had the job before him, right?

Wrong. It's quite easy for power to go to your head, and Ajay, overwhelmed by it all, goes rogue. Soon he's too busy ordering sparkly capes and enforcing the new national spider plan to spot the dastardly plot unfolding right under his nose.

This book was brilliant. It was ridiculously funny and was written amazingly. I would recommend it to about 7-9 year olds. Overall it was fantastic ( especially if you like coffee!)

Best friend from the first in the series Ajay now takes the lead role. Joe Perkins became the UK's PM already, and now his bestie, Ajay, making a bit of a mess of his government roles, is sent off to America ahead of an election to play the diplomat with whichever candidate is elected.

Ajay is slightly oblivious to his words though, and soon accidetally announces he is 'running' for the role himself. Despite meaning he wants to run for exercise and for good causes.

Setting off a chain of events that leads to a lot of Americans voting for the US-born Brit.

Now what could possibly go wrong with a child leading a country? Though this time around, it's not so much what would be different/funny/awful about a young person in the responsible position, McLaughlin doesn't just rehash the book's predecessor, it's a little more about the political rival and problems that crop up that could see Ajay's own beloved home destroyed!

We all enjoyed this, my 14 and 8 year olds and me, on a couple of long journeys. It's not a long read, and in our case - listen. Enthusiastically read by the Audible narrator, Ajay's voice sounds convincingly young, British and naïve. With lots of other voices thrown in and not clashing or sounding out of place.

It's enjoyably daft and might even spark a question or two about politics, elections and who's in power and why.

For ages 7-12.
