Summary

Great Teams Need SQUAD Depth

If you have ever been part of a great team, you will know it is exponentially better than being part of a mediocre team. Teams are at the heart of working in complex domains and are essential to the success of agile approaches yet relatively few teams achieve greatness.

Agile and leadership coach Geoff Watts has pulled together his many years of experience with all sorts of teams from software to product development, from medical teams to sports teams and has identified five common characteristics of great teams:

Self-Improvement
Quality
Unity
Audacity
Delivery

These characteristics are not binary, but can be developed through conscious and deliberate action and practice with many milestones along the way towards team mastery.

Absolutely superb

This is the third book - Scrum Mastery, Product Mastery and Team Mastery and one of the few books that I know that tackle the team side of Agile teams. All the books are worth their weight in gold for any Agile person

book is great content wise, but the audio is awful

loved the book, I really like the way the author uses story telling to convey principles.

but the audio sounds like something from the 1960s crackles pops background hum and volume level changes between chapters. Its so bad it really detracts from what is a great book.

Change starts from within

Change starts at micro level, from within. Rather than change or revolution should be an evolution.

We seem to suffer from god complex in organisations expecting that a single individual (generally external and or decouple from delivery team) is the answer to all our worries.

I highly recommend this book and audio to anyone, even if you think you do perform solo I'd challenge that you are in fact part of a team if not many. Geoff illustrates with real life examples how can we take control of our own destiny, delivering sustainable happy products.

The book is a well rounded trilogy end, if you haven't yet got hold of Scrum Mastery and Product Mastery please do also check them out.

FINALLY... the trilogy is complete!!

Been a fan of all of Geoff's books and had high expectations for this one, and it doesn't disappoint. Top tips for any agile team and I love the idea of the milestone cards too!

audio editor needed! but the book is great!

not sure what happened to the audio editor, but the part about the milestones cards is horribly done... lot of noise and sometimes repeated lines. Card DC3 had even 2 audio track on top of each other and could not be listened.. redownload of the files did not solve the problem.
rest of the book was great. I bought the physical mile stone cards as a reminder for myself and something to display in the team room.

Superb resource for agile teamwork

I have been reading Geoff's books for a while and this one is a great guide for coaches and team members alike. Some good tips and stories, and Geoff's is the perfect narrator for his own work. Awesome!

The first book for agile teams

This is the first book I've found that actually focuses on the team themselves rather than any other role that interacts with the team. I like Geoff's voice and there is so much stuff in here that can be used straight away that I almost don't know where to start. It's a bit weird to have him talk about the cards because they are so visual but I figure I will just buy them separately

They must have rushed this out the door

It was hard to follow, seemed like it was missing some things. I gave in and bought the physical book instead.

Incomplete

Large segments of the book are missing and the narrator sometimes reads the same passage twice. This book is not ready for release.
