ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME THAT YOU MADE A DATE TO VISIT TALL OAKS?

Tall Oaks is an idyllic small town, until the disappearance of a young child throws the tight-knit community into crisis.

Jess Monroe, the boy's distraught mother, is simultaneously leading the search and battling her own grief and self-destructive behaviour. Her neighbours watch on, their sympathy masking a string of dark secrets.

This is a small town where nothing is as it seems, and everyone has something to hide. And as the investigation draws towards a climax, prepare for a devastating final twist . . .

Dark, full of suspense and packed with twists, this brilliant new thriller is like nothing you've heard before.

I loved the slow build up of the characters, the setting the scene and the intensity of expectation built and was set and I loved it. Great story and plot and twists... exciting and sad and beautiful too. Definitely recommend this audiobook excellently performed and narrated.

Gripping

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although having recently listened to All the Colours of the Dark I went into it expecting it to be altogether darker, so the humour was a (not unwelcome) surprise. I absolutely loved the Manny character who was absolutely hilarious, but so many of the other characters were so intrinsically likeable that by the end I was relieved to find out 'whodunit' as it was one of the few characters that I wasn't a fan of! I have to say, I didn't see it coming either. Really enjoyable listen.

Different vibe to what I was expecting

A great debut novel, quite different to his later books, but still wonderful. Brilliantly drawn characters, with Manny a stand out piece of genius.

The narrator is great, with an amazing range of voices. I’m occasionally bothered by his inflection at the end of sentences, but not enough to lose a star.

Tragedy with a touch of fabulous comedy

What a story! What a place of rich characters , goodness in their hearts yet despair on the outside, . So well written, the character connections are real both in terms of being relatable and likely interwoven in a small town. Just so fabulous Chris Whittaker.

One of the best books I’ve ever listened to

I didn't enjoy the narration. the narrator has a weird inflection at the end of sentences that I didn't like

the story took way too long to take shape
