Summary
Symona Brown is a 37-year old Jamaican British woman living in South London looking for her Mr Right whilst her biological clock loudly ticks on. She announces to her close girlfriends after a boozy Sunday brunch that she is ready to up her game and start actively dating, to their surprise and delight. After being consciously single for a number of years, Symona remembers what worked and what definitely did not in the dating arena. This time, she knows who she is and what she wants.
As Symona reflects through her memories from one Mr to another, she reveals her sensual, hilarious and downright frustrating encounters. She finds herself asking, “What does it mean to be a Black woman trying to exist, date and find love?” In her pursuit of love, she learns new lessons and different answers. Will these new revelations get her what she wants?

Feels badly written
Really struggled with this. Starts ok, descends into nonsense and ends terribly. Made no sense! The stories of her friends are far more interesting than her own but they are inexplicably dropped in the last third. The man at the end is pure fantasy. So much so he has no depth and feels made up. So many points go un tackled, so many questions go unanswered. And so many OMG's I wanted to scream. Reads as badly as 50 Shades but for black women. Sigh.

Not for me.
I listened to the end because I hate an unfinished book. But absolutely not the read for me. A whole novel about turning over stones, micro examining every breath of any real or potential relationship and self exploration that made me weary. Maybe not narcissistic but a little too much navel gazing. A lot of other people will thoroughly enjoy this book about this woman’s ‘journey’ to her ideal relationship.

Relatable
As a black female in the UK I think we need more books like this. so many elements felt like my life and I could relax and immerse myself into the story.

Would recommend
I came across this book by accident and finished it in three days. There were times when the narrator took me out of the story if I'm honest, but I did really enjoy the book overall. It isn't perfect, but it's a great read and I would recommend it. I'm looking forward to more from this author!

Be patient it's worth it..
It started of slow for me and very stereotypical for a single black woman of a particular age in London on a quest for love which found me eye rolling a few times. Then somewhere in the middle twists unfold and my interest was piqued again. The spiritual aspect was lost on me but can see how it was interwoven within the characters. Although the book is centered on Symona I appreciate how well rounded the main characters in her life were developed. The narrator was brilliant at bringing the characters alive. I can say the last half of the book was much better at holding my interest as through her peaks and troughs and mostly dermination I admire who Symona became and I'm really really glad I preserved as I was ready to abort completion after the first 3 hours. I feel its a shame one has to go through the first half of tumbleweed but a good read surely worth it nonetheless!

So much more than a book about finding a partner
This book is great. Full of self-discovery, this book is part love story, part valuable life lessons around spirituality, growth and healing. I love that it includes the real fears, joys and obstacles of being a Black woman in the UK and it’s so beautifully written that whilst reading it, you can see the film playing in your mind.
The narration is great in the Audible version (I actually have both paperback and audiobook) although it’s a shame that Lisa Bent isn’t reading it herself - but that’s really just a personal preference of mine.
Full marks all round. Give it go, you won’t regret it.

I really enjoyed this.
Not sure about the reader, but story was excellent, left me wanting a sequel…
Netflix should definitely make a series 😉

Okay
Felt repetitive thus making it long…it had some good themes but it was just Symona maybe if there had been more conversations from the girlies or something…sometimes it felt a little self helpy
