About this listen

Lord Pastern fired his revolver. The figure in the spotlight fell and the coup-de-theatre had become murder. Could Inspector Alleyn believe Pastern had let hatred of his future son-in-law go too far? Or would the tangle of jealousies and blackmail among the guests reveal another murderer?

James Saxton's reading of this is superb. Here is Marsh's usual fantastical, yet utterly believable characters and her reliably ingenious plot. And, of course, the incomparable Alleyn. What's not to love?

As a!ways N Marsh is superb. Prefer Philip Franks readings of the books, how ever

Swing Brother Swing

Marsh never fails to impress with her beautiful and often funny writing. Swing Brother Swing is one of her longer novels but doesn't feel such due to her penmanship. The story is as wonderfully anachronistic as novels of the Golden Age era are: the language, the casual sexism, racism and class distinctions, none of which l find offensive because it is of its time. None of these detract from the telling of a first class whodunit using two of literature's great characters in Inspector Roderick Alleyn and his trusty sidekick, Inspector Fox.

Excellent story. Beautiful authorship.

The narrators of Marsh’s books show just what an art narration is. This is so brilliant with a range of voices all differentiated at speed. The story too is as well written and ingenious (and dated in some social attitudes) as ever. Most entertaining

Terrific story made brilliant by narrator
