Summary
The emotional story of a young woman's journey as she leaves behind all the things she thought she wanted, only to discover who she really is. Number-one New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr explores the challenges facing women today as they are valued for what's on the outside rather than the inside.
Jennifer Chaise is proud of her life. Coming from nothing, she's used her beauty to her advantage and is swept up in a glamorous world of wealth and privilege as the mistress of a high-flying businessman. But when she walks in on a violent scene in their Las Vegas hotel room, Jennifer knows she can no longer ignore the truth about her boyfriend, and she flees. Desperate to escape the men searching for her, she invents a whole new persona - with a new look and a new name - as she hides out in a small Nevada town.
Working as a waitress in the local diner, she finds a mentor in Louise, a retired professor who takes her in. As Jennifer begins to embrace a new life, she realizes how much was missing from her old one: a sense of community and purpose. But it's not easy to simply disappear. Her neighbor, Alex, is a cop, and while he's friendly enough, he may also suspect that Jennifer is not what she seems.
Although she is under constant threat of being discovered, Jennifer is surprised to realize that for the first time, she's genuinely happy. Suddenly this real world is all she wants. But will it be enough when her past catches up with her?

I love Robyn Carr and Therese Plummer! I was in a book funk so decided to go for a comfort book. That is exactly what this author and narrator are for me, comfort. This is a pretty typical Robyn Carr story with the small town that everyone would love to live in. The good small town guy who loves to take care of people and the city girl who never knew she could love the slow simple life. This one has a little bit of a twist because she wasn't just a battered girl looking for a place to hide.
As always Therese Plummer did an amazing job! I love her voice, her male voiced and the way she narration, it's perfect for my ear ;)

LOVED THE STORY!
I pre-ordered this book and was thrilled when it arrived. I was terribly disappointed in the very first reviews that were left. I was prepared to not like it at all. HOWEVER, I truly enjoyed every minute of it and hated to see it come to a close. Therese Plummer's delivery of the story filled a longing that I've had for more Virgin River and Thunderpoint stories. This felt like going home in so many ways.
It is my understanding from the reviews through Amazon, that this book is a reprint of "Runaway Mistress" under a different title. Since neither title have been available through Audible until this one was released, I don't have an opinion on the subject. I can, however, understand why readers of "Runaway Mistress" that purchased this book as well would be upset. Regardless, Robyn Carr didn't disappoint in this novel. Therese...you're still my favorite narrator of ALL TIMES!!!!
If you haven't read "Runaway Mistress", this is a highly recommend listen! Very much worth the credit. Just don't buy both! ;)

Interesting
Any additional comments?
Good book. The characters are well drawn and believable. Jennifer, a former professional mistress is on the run. She changed her name to Doris and settled in a small Nevada town, Boulder Rock. She had always been a loner, but in Boulder Rock she meets people and becomes close to several of them. She works as a waitress and helps her new friend take care of an aging dog named Alice. Jennifer/Doris is a very likable person and her new friends are as well. The person who is looking for Jennifer/Doris is not al all likable but is powerful and wealthy.
The aspect of the book that I liked best was the characters. All were interesting and some were endearing. A very entertaining book that held my interest. It was well performed by Therese Plummer.

Swept Away
Robyn Carr’s books are like old friends to me. I love the cadence, the narration, the storylines. Going in I know exactly what I am going to get a wholesome romance with well rounded characters.
That is exactly what I got with Swept Away. Jen is a professional mistress until she witnesses something unsettling and runs for her life. She makes a new life with some wonderful friends. Friends are something new for her and its plain to see that she needs them as much as they need her.
I loved the town Robyn creates, she has a knack for that making you want to live in these places she creates with these neighbours you wish were real.
the narration by Therese Plummer is amazing how she can be a soothing female voice then a young girl, to a man to an elderly gentleman is a mystery and a wonderful talent. I just adore her.

Rerelease of printed book does not hurt audiobook
I was reluctant to start Swept Away because of the overall low review scores, but on reading the comments I found that most criticism is because it is a rerelease of an earlier work, Runaway Mistress. As a rule I avoid books that are renamed to generate new sales, but since I had not read it under the previous name and this was the first offering of the story as an audiobook, I decided to spend a credit.
I did enjoy this story. First, I have to give credit to Therese Plummer. I have come to enjoy her as the voice of Virgin River and Thunder Point, so her narration truly sets the stage for a good story. I listen to every Robyn Carr audiobook released and this one did not disappoint. The main character, Jennifer, is a strong woman who undergoes growth and development through her struggles. She discovers kindness in a caring community, and the character traits and themes I love so much in Virgin River and Thunder Point are also found in this Nevada town. The male lead, Alex, is a strong, responsible man with a solid moral compass. The supporting characters are well developed and interesting. Although I thought Jennifer's underlying story and motivational premise are a bit weak, these books usually require some suspension of disbelief. Overall, this is a solid Robyn Carr romance and worth the credit.
