Summary

Taylor Langford’s world is torn apart when he is only 13 years old - his parents killed, leaving him alone and orphaned. With no living relatives, he’d certainly be another statistic if not for the intervention of the policeman who found Taylor in the crawl space where his mother hid him that fateful night. Despite the tragedy and resulting anguish in his life, Taylor knows how lucky he is.

Frank Moore is a rookie with the Dallas Police Department when he and his partner answer a call in Devonshire, one of the city’s more affluent neighborhoods. They think the young boy in various pictures throughout the home has been kidnapped until they find him, shaken but alive. Officer Moore recognizes the pain in the kid’s eyes, having lost his own mother to cancer when he was just a boy. He steps in, making sure Taylor is placed with a loving foster family. Over the years, Frank becomes a permanent fixture in Taylor’s life.

A decade later, the case remains unsolved and the once gangly, uncertain teenager is now a college graduate who knows exactly what he wants. He’s coming home to the man that helped mold and shape his life, the man he’s loved for as long as he can remember, Frank Moore. But Taylor isn’t the only person returning to Dallas, and while Frank is distracted by his own conflicting feelings and the new bond growing between the two, the past creeps up on them, determined to finish what was started 10 years earlier.

strange romance

this novel skips the policework and focuses on the relationship between Frank and Taylor. The problem is: you get one meeting a year. What happens inbetween is left out. This makes the novel distant. There is no arc. You don't get involved with the characters because you are reading a summary.

Tender and sweet with a slice of danger!

After his parents are murdered, sole survivor, Taylor is brought up by foster parents and mentored by Frank, the young rookie cop who found him. Over the years, Taylor develops feelings for Frank and as an adult he wants a relationship. They’ll need each other when the danger resurfaces. I liked this, there was some danger to spice up the story, the relationship journey from mentor / mentee to lovers was tender and sweet. I did find Taylor a bit bossy, but then again he’d been through a lot. 🎧 Nick J Russo narrated deftly with a range of distinct character voices and emotions.

Good Suspenseful Romance

4 Blue Roses
3.5 to 4 Blue Flames

Narrator Nick J. Russo went and did it again! He bailed this audiobook out to deliver a semi-solid May/December suspenseful romance. Due to careful attentiveness, and his smooth effortless narration he managed to safely pass underneath the limbo pole. He managed to carry the unspoken tension right through to the end and introduced the crazy.

Taylor’s parents get to be knifed up while he is able to hideaway. Frank, the cop that finds him becomes his savior, family friend, protector, and lover. The murderer himself and the story behind the reason for the murders turned out to be extremely twisty and creepy. The edgy feeling I had the entire time, is the reason why I would continue finishing the series.

As for the romance I did not connect to the lovers. Something felt off, and although I am a fan of May/December lovers, these two did not feel authentic. The character development was on the skimpy side, I would have loved to have known more about Frank.

The weird step-parents are just too friendly for normal to me. The whole experience gave me a feeling that something is about to happen and I don’t know from which side the shit is gonna come flying.

I do recommend this audiobook.

Exciting Story, Great Age-Gap Romance

I enjoyed everything about T.M. Smith’s Survivor. Wonderful age-gap, hurt/comfort, and an exciting mystery. I can’t wait to get Rory’s story in Lover.

Nick J. Russo does a marvelous job with the characters, and really keeps up the energy so it builds throughout.

So good!

Story: I loved all the characters the story included! Both the MCs were exquisitely portrayed, with plenty of emotions and angst throughout! Both the romantic plot and the criminal backstory were great and captivating. Awesome all around.
Narration: all the voices and emotions were perfectly done! It was very easy to follow the story and all the characters were unique. Great job from the narrator!

A slow-burn romance and more...

I especially liked when Taylor and Frank first got together and the steamy scenes that followed. Their attraction had been building for some years and they were a well-suited couple even with the ten-year age gap.

I had several issues with the murder-mystery plot but won’t divulge these due to not wanting to give away spoilers. I felt young Taylor is portrayed a lot younger than his thirteen-year age and that threw me at times. I also thought he acted out of character with the issue of Frank's bed.

The climax of the story came swiftly. It was exciting, although a little predictable. It also included some unexpected revelations about a couple of characters, perhaps as a lead into book 2.

I always enjoy stories narrated by Nick J Russo. He brought the characters to life and portrayed them well

A good listen

This was a good story. I have to admit I was a little thrown by Taylor and his attitude after they got together—not in a bad way, but it was just strange how dominant he became. Regardless, I really enjoyed listening to them grow together from the first day they met. Narration was pretty good, too.

Wonderful story

I truly enjoyed this book. From the awful beginning to the amazing end watching Taylor grow into a strong courageous man and going for what he desires was well written. i would love to see who Shannon ends up with Rand or Rory or both for that matter. To follow Frankie and Tay's life and the cold case of his parents. Nick was wonderful as always. I was given a copy for an honest review.
