About this listen
Monhegan, Maine: a picturesque island located twelve miles from the mainland.
Population: sixty-eight. Well, sixty-nine if you count Elizabeth Sweet, Monhegan’s newest resident and retired child star.
When Elizabeth steps off the boat, she’s ready to be charmed by the island that holds the sweetest memories from her childhood. A place so remote that even the relentless media wouldn’t think to follow her here. Instead, she’s met with nothing but exasperation.
“Summer people.” The words are muttered like a curse, almost a growl. No one seems particularly thrilled about her arrival, least of all the grumpy sheriff, who acts as if her presence is a personal offense.
Stupidly handsome and never seen without his loyal golden retriever, Bing, Sheriff Fisher Jones communicates mostly in grunts. Unfortunately for him, Elizabeth isn’t going anywhere. They’re neighbors, after all, and his niece, Sutton, like every other eight-year-old in America, is utterly obsessed with her.
Summer on Monhegan isn’t anything like Elizabeth expected, and neither is Fisher. She hasn’t figured out why he’s so surly, just as she isn’t ready to share what she’s running from.
But as the days pass, Elizabeth finds the islanders burrowing deeper into her heart. And Fisher may not be far behind. Still, it might all be for nothing if her past finally catches up with her. Because, in the end, she might be destined to be nothing more than one of the summer people.
The book follows our FMC Libby (25) who moved to the island to escape and to feel closer to the memories she has of her mum there. We have our MMC Fisher (34) who is a single guardian to his niece Sutton (the cutest). The grumpy vs sunshine trope really shines in this book with acts of service. He honestly reminded me of Luke Danes from Gilmore Girls lol. Grumpy but does all the things for you 💜. I don't want to write too much as it's a beautiful healing journey for both of them.

Slightly less spicy than other books but I actually liked that it wasn’t tooo spicy, made the plot stand out more, wasn’t just about the spice. Would love to read more!

(There are a few trigger warning's for this book, so please read them before going forward)
I am no stranger to the collaboration of Brittanee and Jenni, but when I read the blurb for this book, I knew I had to buy the audiobook. Summer People is a swoon-worthy romance set in the lush, coastal town of Monhegan, Maine, and follows a former child star on a journey of self-discovery and rejuvenation. The book immediately sets the atmosphere with small-town charm and strong emotional resonance.
I devoured this audiobook, ever since I listened to the Mom Com series, anything these two authors come up with for a storyline, it instantly brings people in to either read or listen to the book.
The story shines at combining romance, personal growth, and nostalgia. The protagonist's search for a new beginning in the heart of picturesque New England elicits both desire and optimism.
The full-cast narration transforms this audiobook from a typical romance into a profoundly immersive experience. Samantha Brentmoor for her performance of Libby and Sutton, Connor Crais as Fisher, Angelina Rocca, Teddy Hamilton, and Avery Caris all lend distinct complexity to their characters. Their performances are fascinating and vivid, helping to separate viewpoints and adding realism to each emotional beat. The combination of experienced narrators ensures that each character feels distinct and relatable, making the listening experience ideal for anybody who appreciates character-driven romance.
Things that had me laughing so much was how much fisher didn't want to like Libby, Libby's pink golf cart and the boat she cant drive, Wilder's goofy idea's to try and get the clinger to go away. Despite all the good laughs, there were a lot of truths within the book that were perfectly looked after in a great way.
Every twist and turn in this book had me on the edge of my seat, and the spice was just excellent for the two authors.
I can't wait to see what happens next with Wilder and Maggie ;)
