Summary
What if you had always dreamed of something more? Nell McNamara has a happy life: her boyfriend, Olly, adores her, their four-year-old daughter, Petal, is the centre of their world, and Nell has a steady job in the local chip shop. When the chippy needs a makeover, Nell jumps at the chance to unleash the creativity fizzing inside her. Inspired by what she can achieve - and encouraged by the very best friends a girl can have - Nell is determined to try something new. Waving goodbye to the chip shop, she starts up a new business making her own line of must-have handbags, which are soon flying off the shelves. It seems Nell's dreams are finally coming true, but her success doesn't come without a price. Before too long, Nell has to ask herself if it's really possible to have it all….
Full of fun, love, and laughter, soak up the sunshine with Summer Daydreams.

Really enjoyed this book
Would you consider the audio edition of Summer Daydreams to be better than the print version?
The audio edition was much better for me as I travel a lot with work and helps pass the time on the motorway. Also Jane Collingwood is great bringing the characters to life with the different voices.
What other book might you compare Summer Daydreams to, and why?
Reminded me of The Girl's Guide to Homemaking by Amy Bratley
Which character – as performed by Jane Collingwood – was your favourite?
Nell was my favourite character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely would happily have sat and listened to this book in one sitting.

Escape, Relax & Laugh Out Loud
This is light hearted, fun and refreshing. The story line is very simple, easy to read, even the books 4 year old daughter makes you giggle, My husband even admitted he couldnt help but listen and laugh when I had it on loud speaker. It also has a good moral behind the story.
Would reccomend for light read , on the beach or holidays or even just an escape and relax time. Other similar stlye books Ive read are the Shopaholics series by Sophie Kinsella.

Terrible narrator
The story is a bit weak and unbelievable but would be easy listening if the ridiculous voice of the narrator didn't make me dread every time the little girl spoke, I think she needs to listen to how children really speak before ruining anybody else's work.

Great story
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and I like the main character Nell. She was inspirational. A good story and listened to it over a couple of days on holiday.

I adored this book!
Any additional comments?
Oh, I absolutely adored this book! If someone had said to me "It's about a girl who works in a chip shop who decides to start her own business making handbags", I don't know if I'd be that tempted to read it, but it really works. It's the way Matthews writes it; the clever development of the characters, the nice easy pace, the way that it flows along, the way that it's so easy to imagine the characters. And not just imagine the characters, but like them and root for them. The funny thing is, is that the main character is actually quite selfish, and yet she's still likeable. I think that is what Matthews is clever at; she steers away from the two-dimensional character and instead creates likeable characters with their warts 'n' all. We can all identify with having selfish moments or even crazy obsessions. The gentle twists and turns, the ups and downs of the story made this a novel that kept me engrossed from start to finish. I listened to this on audio and I liked the narrator's gentle voice. I especially liked her adaptation of the four year old girl in the story who was quite the little madam. More Carol Matthews please!

Lovely escapist read.
Where does Summer Daydreams rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is a perfect example of escapist chick lit. Although different in that the focus is on the main character Nell's attempts to improve herself and exploit her creative urges. Relationships are important in the book, but not in the traditional boy-meets-girl-and-they-have-a-crisis-before-hitching-up-for-good manner.
Which character – as performed by Jane Collingwood – was your favourite?
Petal - unbelievably cute and funny. (I don't usually even like kids much). I was astonished at how fantastic a narrator Jane Collingwood was - before I researched her. It turns out that she's the daughter of two excellent actors from R4 The Archers. Her father is Charles Collingwood (Brian Aldridge) and her mother is Judy Bennett (Shula). Now I'm not so astonished but still hugely impressed.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, the story is totally implausible, and you don't really engage your emotions. Just allow yourself to be gently tickled throughout.
