About this listen

Sugar Mamas is a book of personal stories of women who have a condition called lipedema, which affects 11% of women in the world and results in often debilitating fat deposits in the legs, thighs, hips, arms and other areas. While lipedema is primarily a woman's disease, the research on the condition has only in the last five years really taken off, so the causes and treatments are still in early research stages. As a lipedema patient, blogger, writer, social media influencer and friend to the lipedema community, I am testing my theory that refined sugar consumption is making our lipedema worse. And that reducing free sugars in our diet can reduce inflammation, pain, and the other symptoms of lipedema.

Follow along with a willing group of lipedema volunteers as we test the theory over six months, discuss our sugar addictions and what we learn along the way. Our hope is to share inspiration with other lipedema patients, and to be a catalyst for a true, controlled research study on the effects of sugar consumption on lipedema. Life is sweet!
