Story
They rule my new town, my school, and with more money than God, there’s very little out of their reach. Four gorgeous, perfect, scary boys. There used to be five, but one of them died, leaving a fifth position that I now fill. I didn't ask for this. I didn't want to be part of this billionaire-boys-club. But no one cares about what I want. Sebastian Beckett is the worst of them. Their leader. He draws me in, and strips me of every defense I have. He calls me Butterfly, but it's not a pet name, it's a threat.

Story
Four dangerous, damaged, messed-up boys. There used to be five, but one of them died, and I’m starting to suspect he was murdered. I didn't ask for this. No one would ask to be played, manipulated, seduced, and betrayed. But that’s what happened, anyway. It wasn’t enough for them to break me. Sebastian Beckett has decided that he can’t let me go, but I refuse to forgive and forget his betrayal so easily. His fixation is bordering on obsession, but when we begin to suspect a spy within Delta, there’s no time to deal with his feelings.

Summary
I'm the fat Puerto Rican - Polish girl who doesn't feel like she belongs in her skin, or anywhere else for that matter. I've always been too much and yet not enough.
Sugar Legowski-Gracia wasn't always fat, but fat is what she is now at age seventeen. Not as fat as her mama, who is so big she hasn't gotten out of bed in months. Not as heavy as her brother, Skunk, who has more meanness in him than fat, which is saying something. But she's large enough to be the object of ridicule wherever she is: at the grocery store, walking down the street, at school. Sugar's life is dictated by taking care of Mama in their run-down home - cooking, shopping, and, well, eating. A lot of eating, which Sugar hates as much as she loves.
When Sugar meets Even (not Evan - his nearly illiterate father misspelled his name on the birth certificate), she has the new experience of someone seeing her and not her body. As their unlikely friendship builds, Sugar allows herself to think about the future for the first time, a future not weighed down by her body or her mother.
Soon Sugar will have to decide whether to become the girl that Even helps her see within herself or to sink into the darkness of the skin-deep role her family and her life have created for her.

Teen anti-bullying book.
This book is geared toward teens. Fat girl with low self-esteem comes into her own. A little smaltzy, but performed well. I think there are some kids who this book could really help. Having said that, it seemed that the author had more of an agenda (bullying) than a desire to tell a really good story.

Yes, Plenty of Eating, but Even More Heart!
I wasn't sure that I was going to like "Sugar" as much as I did. After all, it's fraught with her self-loathing, with her eating to soothe just about any kind of jangled nerve. And there's plenty to jangle even the most steady of nerves. Kids hate her, her brother's sadistic, her mother is a self-absorbed and horribly abusive tyrant that she slaves for.
Enter Even. I kind of had problems with him at first because his halo's so huge, but he has his own secrets, his own problems, so it winds up working well.
Sugar, Mercy, starts finding nourishment of another kind. And when it all hits the fan and she has to decide who she wants to be, the story brings love, memories, hidden treasures. It was satisfying on the whole, and very, very believable.
Tara Sands narrates it so well, with the cynicism of youth, the wry sense of humor of a girl just trying to get along. Well done!
Please keep in mind that this book is NOT for 11-13 year olds, as Audible categorizes it. This is for young adults, or those who remember terrible times in their past. It's a very healing story that will bring satisfaction and peace.

Absolutely Beautiful!
If you could sum up Sugar in three words, what would they be?
Heart wrenching, hopeful, surreal.
What other book might you compare Sugar to and why?
I don't know of any I could compare it to.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Sugar reads the letters from Even stating his love for her. My favorite and the scene that made me cry the most!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed and I cried like a baby. Didn't want to finish it for fear of crying more, but I'm glad I did!
Any additional comments?
Such a wonderful story; Especially for young girls battling bullying or self image issues. I wish this book had been around when I was younger, It would've helped me through some of my own weight issues. Well written and spoken. Love this book!

Like a fly on the wall
What did you love best about Sugar?
The story line hit home. She was a survivor. She took control of her destiny. If you love to see the underdog win this is the book for you.
What other book might you compare Sugar to and why?
Precious. Same type of emotional abuse and neglect. Same heroin different story line. The underdog is a champ.
What about Tara Sands’s performance did you like?
The reader was so well read. She was able to switch between characters with such ease. I felt like a fly on the wall in the lives of the characters. At times she had me in tears as if I were there being witness to the cruelty or triumphs.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely
Any additional comments?
A must listen/read!!

EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER!!!!!!! (In a good way)
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Yes. And YES!!!!!!!! This story takes you through the emotional journey of someone coming into their own. It forces you to look at yourself (flaws and all), and embrace them. I truly can not say enough about this book, but at the same time I am lost for words because it was so direct and raw.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sugar?
Trying to say this w/o Spoilers: After Even went out on the snow mobile, and Sugar turned back to sweets. The fact that they did not have the same effect on her was a testament on how far she'd come with her eating addiction. But it also showed her she was using the food to fill a void.
Have you listened to any of Tara Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I have not. But I truly enjoyed this one.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did. Again, no Spoilers: There were many, MANY moments when tears streamed down my face. However, the most emotional moment was when Sugar "purchased" the motorcycle. The entire scene made me an emotional wreck.
Any additional comments?
One of the best books I ever read. So much of sugar's life reminded me of my own. The bullying and the weight issues that I've struggled through. This book explained so much about my eating issues, and I felt like I got a free therapy session.
