About this listen

'The rainbow reaches right across the sky, for miles and miles, and has landed right in the middle of our field. My mother, Alison, is standing at the beginning. I'm sure it's a beginning, rather than the end, as there's no pot of gold in sight. The point where everything forms or, perhaps, is not quite formed as yet. That's my favourite place. A place alive with possibility.'

Strange Things Are Happening begins with the wonder of that rainbow, and continues with many escapades down the rabbit hole. From punk and the beginnings of the DIY scene, through Acid House, psychedelia, the rise of electronic dance music and much more, Richard Norris has been involved in countless countercultural revolutions. From misadventures in Amsterdam with Timothy Leary, with Sun Ra at customs, and Shaun Ryder in Joe Strummer's beaten-up Cadillac in Tijuana, to his extraordinarily influential output in The Grid and Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, Richard Norris' story is one of collaboration and community, fuelled by relentless psychedelic curiosity.

Strange Things Are Happening is a record of a life lived in the moment, forever in thrall to discovery, exploration and innovation - the search for what lies at the other end of that rainbow.©2024 Richard Norris (P)2024 Orion Publishing Group Limited

Fantastic overview of many things I missed in my teens. Works as an introduction and also a memoir with subjects and times that many heads will be familiar with . Like the best books, it’s sent me down rabbit holes into warrens of other artists , genres and movements.

What a life. Simultaneously simple and increasingly complex approaches. Collaborative and golden vibes abound here.

A love affair with all things music and freaky

A great insight into the 90s dance scene from the inside, stories are honest and balanced in the age of the ego in dance music this is a rare thing! Richard’s songwriting process stories are especially insightful.

Incredibly narrated and brilliant stories

As a huge music fan and electronic music specifically I hold my hands up not knowing much about Norro, apart from the Grid.

However he’s central and was around lots of the scenes I read about in my youth and then experienced in my late teens and 20’s and to be fair still dip into these days.

Lots of interesting stories along the way and what I found really interesting is the last chapter and the medical use of music. I’ll definitely check out any other materials on that subject.

Very interesting story
