About this listen

Bruised from the breakdown of her marriage, Esther Lomax needs to get away, and Malaysia seems the perfect place. But a day's boat trip takes a desperate turn when Esther and six other holidaymakers are taken to a desert island and their guide doesn’t return. As the days pass, tensions erupt, secrets emerge, and time increasingly runs out, Esther must ask herself: Will she leave the island alive?

Really liked this. Not sure why I downloaded it and it was on my list for ages before I got round to listening. So glad I did. It's gripping, surprising and different. Narrator is excellent too.

What did you like best about this story?

I really liked the unexpectedness of the plot and how it made you question yourself. It is too easy to second-guess plots these days but this one had lots of surprises with twists and turns that kept me guessing.

What about Antonia Beamish’s performance did you like?

She was pretty good with accents.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Be careful what you wish for!

This book really surprised me! It started off as some sort of "dessert island" type story but then develops into something else entirely. I really enjoyed this story despite the obvious holes in the plot. Will be looking for more from Emily Barr.

Holey plot but still enjoyable!
