Story
Acclaimed performance poet and novelist Benjamin Zephaniah's honest, wry and poignant story of a young refugee left in London is of even more power and pertinence today than when it was first published. Life is not safe for Alem. His father is Ethopian, his mother Eritrean. Their countries are at war, and Alem is welcome in neither place. So Alem is excited to spend a holiday in London with his father - until he wakes up to find him gone. What seems like a betrayal is in fact an act of love, but now Alem is alone in a strange country and he must forge his own path....

Story
In the rigid theocracy of Salem, Massachusetts, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town. In a searing portrait of a community engulfed by panic—with ruthless prosecutors, and neighbors eager to testify against neighbor—The Crucible famously mirrors the anti-Communist hysteria that held the United States in its grip in the 1950’s.

Brilliant parallel story!
I listened to this start to finish. I love the parallel stories that meet a few times along the way until the stories climax.
SPOILER ALERT
The author has clearly taken inspiration from Dennis Nelson or Jeffery Dalmer for the killer.

Great insight into street life.
I felt like I was on the roller coaster with Link, and Ginger and think that it was written well on their side. The story of shelter however wasn’t as good for me, it felt like two different authors had written it. Good little short story though, sadly based no doubt on true events

Felt it was better to be read than listened too.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, although I read some of it too and it was laid out in a better way and it is more obviouse to tell one character from another.
If you’ve listened to books by Robert Swindells before, how does this one compare?
Never listened, but have read some of his books and it is in a similar style.
