Summary

The Sunday Times bestseller returns with a nail-shredding thriller – a must for all fans of Happy Valley and M.J. Arlidge.

How do you find the missing when there’s no trail to follow?

DC Lucy Clayburn is having a tough time of it. Not only is her estranged father one of the North West’s toughest gangsters, but she is in the midst of one of the biggest police operations of her life.

Members of the public have started to disappear, taken from the streets as they’re going about their every day lives. But no bodies are appearing – it’s almost as if the victims never existed.

Lucy must chase a trail of dead ends and false starts as the disappearances mount up. But when her father gets caught in the crossfire, the investigation suddenly becomes a whole lot more bloody…

Character needs more work.

Having read and enjoyed all of this series, I still felt at the end of this book that I still didn’t really know the main character.
While I know she’s a no nonsense risk taking copper I still don’t really know what’s she’s like as an everyday woman about town.
What does she like at home?
What grinds her gears off duty?
What does she do or where does she go socially?
It’s as if Lucy goes to work then disappears after work.
Unlike Paul Finch’s other character “Heck” who is a fabulous full, believable character, I just feel Lucy is a bit hollow at times.
Still a good book don’t let my comments deter you from listening as they are just how I perceive her.
I just want to know more.

Another great paul finch book

Another gritty mystery from crime writer ex-cop paul finch, well worth a listen, following the career of wdc Lucy clayburn and her personal fight against crime in the Manchester area, whilst trying to avoid letting anyone else know her hidden secret, for fear it may get her canned and her father killed

Good third instalment

I enjoyed the development of the two main characters. Maybe a little far fetched but it is fiction after all!

Didnt blow my socks off.

Not bad but being a copper of 30 years service I found the actions of very senior officers unbelievable any connection with a suspected top villain would mean the end of a career. Especially if it became an active connection . Read well though and I wanted to know what happened next .

Great Author , Poor Narrator

Much as I tried, I couldn't ignore the constant mispronunciations. It was distracting and frustrating, detracting from the story. Additionally the lack of decent modulation made it seem as though she was reading just to get the job finished. It's a shame as I have enjoyed the authors stories and audiobooks until now.

Great thriller . No depth of characters

Good as Paul Finch is at Thrillers I get so frustrated as the main character , Lucy..has no personality. Exciting things happen but we
Never get to know her. ( Has she friends ,what does she like,
at 32 does she want a man and kids ...Is she heterosexual.
Or have I got that wrong) ..
Several current female writers such as ..Jane Casey, and Patrica Gibney , Give us this to great effect.
Paul a great writer I love The DS Heck Books
Real people please Paul !
