About this listen

The Vampire Knitting Club decides to take part in Oxford's Holiday Market, selling exquisite hand-knit scarves, sweaters, and gift items. Their most popular item is the hand-knit Christmas stocking, brightly colored and extra-long to squeeze in a few extra small gifts.

But when a sales clerk in another booth is found strangled with one of the stockings, Lucy Swift and her undead detectives are on the case, determined to find out who would do such a terrible thing. And why.

In the meantime, Lucy's working hard at her spell book, learning to be a witch, with the help of her black cat familiar and her new assistant. Meritanum is a 3,000-year-old Egyptian witch, and she's having trouble with some of the concepts of modern life, such as traffic, smart phones, and anything powered by electricity.

Life at Cardinal Woolsey's knitting shop in Oxford, England, is as colorful as the most garish Christmas sweater.

very easy listening. I've enjoyed this whole series. was initially hard to get into, mostly due to the narrator, but I like her a lot now.

easy, escapist

My favourite in the series so far, story is great and a little different from the standard murder mystery. Narration is fantastic especially with so many voices and accents.

Best so far

Genius mix of family, friends, textiles, wee bit of romance and fun. City of Oxford is another character to enjoy. Recommended. Great narration.

Inspired take on Vampire Trope

I like the warmth. Needs tighter copyedit, because there are often multiple repeated words in the same paragraph like: "She looked sad, I thought, sadly. It was sad that..." and it's set in Oxford and I'm not sure the author knows much about British culture, or Oxford specifically, but that probably won't bother someone who isn't British. Lots of plot points and character descriptions are repeated as if we might forget who the main characters are, that Rafe is a vampire etc it does mean you don't have to work to remember anything. I love the vampire knitting club and want more information about the vampires, I missed her Grandmother in this- characters just sort of conveniently disappear and reappear when the main character needs them. I love the details about the wool and Lucy's growing wardrobe of jumpers. The plot is fun and you can't immediately figure out "whodunnit".
Narrator is fun for the main character voice, but seems to struggle with British accents.
A fun cosy crafty magical world.
