Never have I shouted out loud, What! Nooo! Don't do that! with a book before. The twist and turns of relationships, beginning again after your world fell apart and the emotional issues Sue weaved into this fantastic story that kept me wanting to know what could possibly happen next!

frustratingly great!

this is a very nice book.
however I did find it a bit slow going in parts.
the narrator kept stopping mid conversation which was odd but you get used to it.

a lovely book

storyline from start to finish with some great characters and antics within the book. The narrator was very good at using different voices for the characters.

I first read this book over a decade ago and remembered enjoying it (and I still read and enjoy Sue Moorcroft books), so when the audible was on sale I thought I’d give it a whirl. I did wonder whether it would hold up given alot has changed in the world since this was first published. I did find some of the story a bit dated in terms of how characters are expected to act nowadays around situations such as consent, but I went with the flow as it was a minor infraction and in the end nothing even happened given Tess passed out! There was also a sexual assault which I don’t remember from first time reading (not the MMC Rattie so breath a sigh of relief). There is also domestic abuse and controlling behaviour from the ex - again not sure I remember that from first reading or maybe my view of life is now different!

I enjoyed listening to this book, and thought the narrator did a great job of bringing to life the various quirky characters of Middledip, who are still being written about in newer books by the author (which I love!)

Both main characters, Tess and Rattie, are flawed (Tess and her running from situations she finds difficult, and Rattie in his need to manipulate things and people around him to achieve his ends), however I liked them both and even though I was frustrated by them for significant portions of the book (first him and then her) I was willing them on towards their happy ever after. There were great supporting characters as always.

Well worth a listen.

Holds up a decade or so later!
