Summary

The middle of nowhere just got a lot more interesting!

Nerdy astronomy geek Marsha, "M" to her few friends, has never been anybody special. Orphaned as an infant and reluctantly raised by an overly-strict "aunt", she's not even sure who she is. M's dream of someday escaping tiny Jewel, Indiana, and making her mark in the world seems impossibly distant until hot new quarterback Rigel inexplicably befriends her. As Rigel turns his back on fawning cheerleaders to spend time with M, strange things start to happen: her acne clears up, her eyesight improves to the point she can ditch her thick glasses, and when they touch, sparks fly - literally! When M digs for a reason, she discovers deep secrets that will change her formerly humdrum life forever...and expose her to perils she never dreamed of.

Aggressively Formulaic But Entertaining Enough

Nothing spectacular but if what you read in the blurb appeals to you then you'll enjoy it. Although it does feel about 100 pages too long, it's drug out a but more than it needs to be. It should be noted that this story suffers from your average nerdy/ judgemental girl meets inhumanly hot boy and spends a lot of the story being catty with the cartoonishly rich/blond/cheerleader character. Which is pretty played out, but like I said before, if you're just looking for some good old fashion teen drama to numb your brain, this will give it to you.
The narrator is good, although she by NO means sounds like a 15 year old, and her attempts to do so at times are almost funny. So it threw me off considerably in the beginning.

DKR

Loved this book. The characters were easily to fall in love with and pulled in the reader into their world completely. One easily was so wrapped up in that world that they could not put down or turn off the book till the end. Can’t wait to see what will happen in their lives in the next episode. Thanks Brenda for a exciting read.

A Step Down from YA

When I think YA fiction i think along the lines of the hunger games or the selection series or the Susan Pfeiffer series where the main characters are young ADULTS. This book is for the age group before YA not sure if there is a name for it. This is a story that might be interesting for a child of 13 that is exploring how she will navigate gender roles and social milestone in middle school. Not saying I recommend this book for that child, I Do Not, but that is the age range that might find this story engaging.

Amazing

First I would like to say this is not the normal type of book I would read or listen to. However, I was intrigued, and I was also asked to pre-read this to make sure it would be appropriate for a youth book club of mixed gender and ages. I am a 53 year old woman who reads a broad spectrum of fiction, non-fiction, biographies, true crime and even a few political and even some romance now and again. So on that note.
I found this book engaging right from the start, in both audio form and written form. The author and narrator both did such a magnificent job in drawing the readers \ listener's in that you felt like you were right there feeling all the emotions that the youth, both male and female alike, go through in high school. What I like most about it though is that the author did this WITHOUT the use of foul language and sexual scenes.
This is a scfi, romance, and bad guy, high school drama, and the complexities of maneuvering through family, high school high archy, the complexities of friendships and then let's just add in the human martians.
I loved this book and now just because I can..... I'm going to get the rest of them for a binge listening while I quilt, sew, and crochet in my lovely retirement. Tootles for now.

WINE WINE WINE! Narrator ruined this series!

the high pitched wining voice is enough to drive a person nuts! the Book and series would be good but the narrator cant read without the high pitch that is not age appropriate for the character! I will not listen to anything else by this narrator!
