Summary
She carries a star's power in her body. He was sent to take it. Fated love. Doomed soulmates. A love story that wasnt meant to last. A sweet, no-spice YA romantasy and faith-based epic fantasy. For thirty-three years, mortals have been on their own, abandoned by the guardians once sworn to protect them. But when a frail village outcast gains the powers of a star, her tortured guardian Malokai is sent to the surface for one purposefind the Star Wielder and kill her, claiming the stars power for darkness. Jemma never wanted to be anyones savior. She faints at the worst moments. She cant fight to save her own life. And defending the very people who cast her out from an army of sky demons sounds, frankly, unpleasant. Worse, the one sent to destroy her may be the only one who understands her. Divinely bound and running out of time, Jemma and Malokai build a fiercely loyal found familya sharp-tongued princess, a size-shifting leopard, and unlikely warriors . . . to discover that the deadliest weapon against Darkness itself isnt magic or steel. Its humility, sacrifice, and a love they cant outrun. This novel debuts the untold beauty of Zoria, a luminous fantasy world brimming with shapeshifting creatures, starlight, ocean magic, and ancient martial artswoven through with a deep story of grace and redemption. Perfect for fans of Yona of the Dawn, the elemental adventure of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the hope in The Chronicles of Narnia. Closed-door romance with fantasy violence, wartime peril, and faith themes. This was my first Christian themed fantasy. A clean YA romance that is for all readers young and old.

The story follows the adventures of a village girl, Jemma, who was different and and outcast. She preferred animals over humans. However she had the desire to save their village and for her name to be known by all. Through some accident she received powers from a fallen star and is set on a path she was never prepared for.

Malokai was an interesting character and I had mixed feelings about him from start to finish. He was a fallen Guardian and also had his own side mission to try save his family.

The story was filled with great creatures and I enjoyed the worldbuilding. But you to concentrate and take notes to keep track of all the different side characters in the book and that was a bit much in an audio book. I think reading it might have been a different experience.

Overall I enjoyed the story but the narration was very slow and flat, I had to listen to it at a faster speed. Book two will be coming out soon, and I'm looking forward to see how the story will continue as this ending felt final.

I like it very much initially but it lost something for me when it became too 'christian' if I had realised this I wouldn't have chosen it. Despite that I thought the premise of the story was engaging, good v evil.

Too 'religious' for me
