About this listen

Three mysteries. One magical mutt. Zero tolerance for squirrel nonsense.

Meet Toby—a rescue dog with a tragic past, a nose for trouble, and a serious bone to pick with evil witches.

When journalist and part-time witch Clarissa Page first meets Toby, she thinks she’s getting a quiet companion. What she gets is a furball with opinions, secrets and more than a touch of magic. Together, they form the least conventional (but most adorable) crime-fighting duo the West Country has ever seen.

Book 1: Ain’t Nothing but a Pound Dog

Murder. Magic. Mystery. Sammiches. Toby’s seen it all—and he’s not barking mad, thank you very much. Cursed and confused, he teams up with Clarissa to solve a murder, unmask a killer, and maybe—just maybe—get his paws on a sausage roll.

Book 2: A Curse, a Coven and a Canine

Clarissa’s coven is in chaos, there’s a creepy Pointy Woman lurking in the woods, and Toby smells danger (and biscuits). With help from a talking squirrel mafia and a hedge-dwelling witch, the team races to break a deadly curse before things go belly-up.

Book 3: Bark Side of the Moon

The moon is full, the magic is wild, and Toby’s tail is twitching. The final showdown looms, and it’ll take all of Toby’s courage (and at least two cheese toasties) to stop The Pointy Woman and save the day. Let the fur fly.

Perfect for fans of:

•Magical mayhem, quirky covens and supernatural suspects.

•Uniquely memorable sassy animal sidekicks

•Witchy cozy mysteries with bite (and bark)

•Talking woodland creatures inevitably plotting shenanigans

Warning: May contain enchanted squirrels, gothic hexers, biscuit bribes, and one very good boy who refuses to heel.

Perfect for fans of cozy paranormal mysteries, magical animals, and whimsical British charm—this trilogy offers a heartfelt, humorous journey through love, loyalty, and the power of second chances (especially canine-shaped ones).

This is the first book I have read or listened to by this author but it won't be my last and what a great way to get stuck into the series too, with the first three books. Especially as the books follow on from each other and is basically one big book. It was so unusual and I loved it. To be honest I wasn't sure the book was going to be for me to begin with but by the middle of the first book I was hooked. I liked the characters, especially Toby and his 'sammiches'. The reason it works as one book is despite knowing who killed Toby's owner, it continues throughout the books (and I should think probably throughout the series) as they try to find her and put a stop to her plans. Which is why I am not sure I can wait for the next box set (as I will have forgotten the story) so off to start book four.

A fun series for anyone who likes magic, mystery and talking animals with something to prove.

Ain’t Nothing But a Pound Dog: Spellbound Hound Magic and Mystery Book 1
This one was slightly unusual, as for the first half of the book we had the perspective of the dog as he explained how he ended up in the dog shelter, with the death of his human and his escape. Despite the murder of his human this book focus on him meeting Clarissa but they do solve a little dog napping case in the process.

A Curse, A Coven and a Canine: Spellbound Hound Magic and Mystery Book 2
I think this was probably the book I liked the least only because despite learning a lot about the pointy woman the sudden end would have disappointed me if I did not have the next book ready to go. In this book Toby and Clarissa elderly neighbour is attacked by the pointy woman and so begins an investigation into what she is looking for. The stories are told mostly by Clarissa now but Toby is still around to add his two cents, especially where sammiches are involved.

Bark Side of the Moon: Spellbound Hound Magic and Mystery Book 3
Things are heating up in this book. The pointy woman is fighting back and Clarissa not only looses her job but is also kicked out of her coven and it becomes a race to find the missing gems. I think this was probably my favourite because a lot was going on and they didn't know who to trust.

I liked the narrator. She made the characters fun and entertaining but with a talking dog obsessed with sammiches, how was it not going to be entertaining? Each character had there own voice to help the story come alive.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great fun paranormal mystery. Story line is good. Toby is hilarious! As a dog owner totally believe his love of samiches is every dog’s favourite. Binged books 1-3. Purchased 4-6 and starting them now!

Now I really loved this set of books. Toby is fabulous and Clarissa is a most ingenious sidekick, cause of course Toby the dog is the star of these books. Great storylines and plenty to keep you engaged with the characters.
