About this listen

An accessible guide to the next big thing in self-care: sound healing. Taking a science-based approach, this book provides lessons and exercises to beat stress and anxiety.

We already use sound as a form of self-care, from self-soothing with music to immersing ourselves in the noises of nature to promote calm. This book is the natural next step for those looking to delve more deeply into the power of sound.

Cutting through the noise, Farzana Ali digs deep into the science to explain its full therapeutic and restful potential. She considers a number of topics, such as:

- the different types of therapeutic sound, from vibroacoustic massage to soundscapes and creativity-fuelling sound baths

- the role of sound on the brain and why, for example, Himalayan bowls work

- the benefits of sound healing, from better sleep to pain management and reducing anxiety

- what connects sound healing to mindfulness and being in nature

- how sound healing works as a form of passive rest, making it ideal for the highly stressed

Farzana shares practical tips and activities that can be used in everyday life, with advice on extra tools to use alongside sound healing, including active listening, art therapy, breath work, journaling exercises, and visualizations. This book also includes a sound recording that the listener can use as a basis for their own practices at home.

I can’t say just how much I enjoyed this Audiobook. From start to finish it was interesting, educational, engaging and relatable!

As someone who is not typically overly spiritual (or as my Boomer parents would say “hippy dippy”) but values the importance of wellbeing, especially working in a fast paced corporate environment (not to mention the world in which we are currently living) I know the importance of implementing well-being strategies into every day life. The challenge is finding ones that feel easy to do so naturally, without much effort, study/skill and dare I say time (I jokingly reiterate a fast paced life). Farzana’s insight and education into the world of Sound Healing makes the practices she teaches and speaks on feel entirely accessible and suitable for anyone and everyone to take the clearly science backed advantages of. I’m really eager to immediately start implementing some of her suggested learnings in to my every day life, which feels very achievable (often a rarity in many well-being practices, for me any way).

I recommend this book (the Audiobook gives you the added benefit of listening to the authors also very relaxing and pleasant voice) to anyone and everyone. I will be purchasing it for my Boomer parents and recommending it to all of my friends, whether they’re into spirituality and wellbeing, stressed in their work or daily lives or anywhere in between. It’s a must read/listen!

A must listen! Educational, entertaining and engaging and a must for anyone and everyone!

A lot of claims made in the book, though very few actual "science-based" references. Handpans and steel tongue drums are two different instruments, though similar.

Talk not sounds she really likes the sound of her own voice not what I bought the book for
