About this listen

Charlotte is an only child, reared by a brutal father who cannot forgive her for not being the son he desires. Loved by most that she meets, Charlotte has a gift for friendship, and it is her work as a Sunday school teacher that gives her hope - and an escape from home.

When Charlotte meets Miles Thornton, she is instantly drawn to him. He is new to the area and a widower, with three lovely young sons to look after, but the one thing he has longed for is a daughter. As they grow to understand each other, it seems that Miles and Charlotte have more in common that meets the eye....

Sweeping from the early 1920s through to the end of World War II, Sons and Daughters is a compelling, traditional saga set against the Lincolnshire landscape that Margaret Dickinson portrays so well.

Loved the characters, felt attached to them. The ending wasn't as predictable as I thought, it was lovely how it twisted round.
Just as I think Margaret's books can't get any better another one is always as good if not better.

A new twist in the story right up to the end

This book is one of the best books of Margaret Hutchinson. The author has a great way of leading you to think something is going to happen and then writing something totally different which keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to keep on listening. I am always sorry when her books come to an end and can’t wait to start a new one. This is a very good book and very well narrated.

A story with so much depth, intrigue and sub stories. Characters are superbly well developed and yet even with the passage of time more is brought up. One of my favourite stories for years.

Simply an amazing story.

This was a good book but I wish I had known that it was supposed to be read before Jenny's War!! There is a little too much repetition of this and Jennys War. They are linked by Jenny but it only needed a chapter or two to describe it not five!

Read this BEFORE Jenny's War!!
