About this listen

Penny Lancaster counts herself as incredibly lucky. She had a loving upbringing, her life with husband Rod Stewart has spanned continents, she’s made incredible friendships, become part of an amazing family and embraced motherhood.

But it’s not all been plain-sailing. From being relentlessly bullied at school and underestimated because of undiagnosed dyslexia, Penny also experienced a harrowing sexual assault as a young girl. This has made her a staunch campaigner for women’s safety and, these days, she regularly puts in hours as a Special Constable for the City of London Police, where her primary concern is making the streets safe for women.

She’s also navigated the challenges of having the weight of the world’s scrutiny thrust upon her in her twenties, undergone IVF treatment, supported loved ones through cancer diagnoses, overcome her own depression and manoeuvred through menopause. Amongst a heady mix of royalty, rock legends and renegades, her story is one of resilience.

In Someone Like Me Penny tells her full story for the first time, with a natural empathy and humour that she hopes will help others on their own life journey. She shares her wisdom from hard-earned lessons, showing that the key to navigating both storms and sunshine is staying true to you.

What a honest book about her life and a very inspiring read. Not just Mrs stewart and should have a title of her own for all the great work she’s has done in lots of different areas. well worth a listen.

What a beautiful book this was. Having seen Rod live in Las Vegas two weeks ago I remembered that Penny had brought out her book.
As soon as I landed home in the uk I downloaded it. At first I struggled with Pennys narration but once she had explained about her dyslexia I felt guilty that I hadn’t enjoyed it and from then on loved listening to the rest of this beautiful book.
What a wonderful, humble and inspiring woman she is. Her story is written from the heart and I loved listening to her life unfolding.
I also was so chuffed that she covered the Celebrity Masterchef/Greg Wallace story. What a slime ball he is!
Well done Penny. What a beautiful woman you are both inside and out.

I felt connected with Penny from the start - inspired by her journey - her honesty is refreshing. I have always been an avid fan of Rod but listening to Penny tell her story makes me realise what an inspirational lady in her own right - hats off to you Penny ❤️ x

Behind all the jet-set, twinkles, champagne and privileges is a very ordinary and down to earth Essex girl telling her extraordinary life to the present day sharing her experiences, triumphs and struggles along the way. A captivating read with the added sprinkling of insight into her remarkable life being married to such an iconic rockstar. Penny comes across as a genuine, warm and humble woman always striving to improve to be a better version of herself, something we can all relate to. A wonderful memoir, thank you Penny xx
