About this listen
“I’m here to see my fiancé. I believe you know Parker, Dad…”
That sentence seems innocent enough in the right setting. But the woman’s father? Yeah, he happens to be my boss. The first time I met Cashlynn O’Neil, she thought she was going to die before the plane we were on ever left the ground. So I did what any gentleman would do—I comforted her, kept her distracted, and then later that night, she ended up back in my hotel room to thank me.
But then a year later she waltzed in the Carrington Cove Animal Hospital and told her father we were engaged.
And that would have been harmless, except the last time I was engaged it left me scarred beyond repair, vowing never to entertain the idea of love again.
I can’t fall for my boss’s daughter.
I can’t keep lying to myself about how I feel either.
But is it possible that someday you learn that it’s not the wrong person that will make you question what you want in life, but it’s the right one?
And is Cashlynn the right woman for me?

I absolutely loved the initial meeting between our MC's; not only the way the heat skyrocketed within a few hours of their meeting, but just how sweet Parker was in his distraction of Cashlynn. It was the perfect start to their story, and I whilst I was scratching my head alongside Parker at the quick departure of Cashlynn after their hot night together, I knew the story was only getting started.
A year later the two meet, with Cashlynn springing the elaborate fake-engagement plan on Parker, and here the story begins. Now, I'm absolutely FERAL for fake dating/engagement etc, -- this was beyond amazing. The way Cashlynn tried to push Parker's buttons had me in absolute hysterics, and you could feel the tension growing between them with each chapter. I love that with everything going on, Parker confronts some demons in his past, and actively works on his mental health (huge props to James for including that) and of course, the fake becomes not-so-fake as time passes - and oh, boy, was it an amazing, romantic, spicy, laughter filled journey for these two idiots to realise what was right in front of them this whole time.
You could not have picked two better narrators to bring Parker and Cashlynn to life than Hamilton and Wilder. Hamilton brings the right amount of swoon, dry humour and comedic timing to Parker, and you can hear every single emotion shine through his words - he's truly acting in this one, and I could listen to him all day. Wilder is a new-to-me narrator but I absolutely fell in love with her portrayal of Cashlynn, bringing out her emotional, vulnerable side whilst also voicing those cheekier moments. She and Hamilton work seamlessly together in bringing Carrington Cove to life in this story, and I am in love.

I will just add that I have only read these two books in this series so far and apart from a couple of brief mentions of other characters within this small town, this definitely works well as a standalone read and as the main focus is on one particular couple, the storylines flow well and are complete and make great reads.
This book sees Parker and Cashlynn's story unfold - after we got a tiny snippet at the end of book 3 - which left us on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Their story begins a little before this and it was great to get this insight into how the couple actually met and what had happened between them before Cashlynn arrives in Carrington Cove.
Having briefly met Parker in the previous book, it was nice to see his life away from just the friendship group that we'd seen before.
A veritable workaholic, he never has time for much else - and after a painful past relationship, he's really not keen to let anyone back in again.
Cashlynn has her own backstory which is how the couple end up in this strange situation that forces them into close proximity.
I loved how their relationship developed and how our reluctant Parker came around gradually and supported Cashlynn even before he fully let her in.
Cashlynn's antics had me chuckling throughout and especially as his sister joined in with the tricks!
It was so easy to just fall straight back into this read, like catching up with friends again.
With great characters and a well written and unique storyline, I was completely hooked from the start.
I really need to catch up on the first two books while I patiently await book 5, which I see is already planned.
I can't wait to see whose story well be diving into next .....
love this series
