A marvellous read. It's engaging, detailed and believable. Gives a great insight into the life and thoughts of a German officer. You get to really know and understand the trials and tribulations he went through. Highly recommended.

A very open account covering a wide period of time. The author has done his best to put the reader in his time and experience with out trying to portray anything except the truth.

An honest read

Well layed out and very well written story.
The narrator can seem a bit monotone but that doesn't detract from the quality of this book...

Why isn't this a movie?

A must for every history buff, this is one of the best audio books I’ve ever listened to. Very well read it is too, exactly what you would imagine a young career soldier to sound like 👍
