Summary
Now that I've retired my Scoutmaster badge I'm able to write what I would have appreciated reading when I first took on the job 30 years ago.
Since I started writing a blog at ScoutmasterCG.com 11 years ago, I've learned something of the power of storytelling.
This narrative loosely follows my own experiences, but the new Scoutmaster in the story begins knowing things that took me many years to understand. I share it with the hope you'll find it useful, and inspire you to discover something more about the spirit of your work as a Scouter.

CG is a true master of Scouting principles.
This is a lovely story, which if you’ve been a Scoutmaster CG listener, brings elements of CG’s passion for the patrol method into a short story.

For every Scouter, whether experienced or not!
I have enjoyed all of Clarke's podcasts at scoutmastercg.com and have been inspired to take the many steps toward Youth Led Scouting with our Troop. Clarke's insights, wisdom and advice that generously pepper his online blogs and podcasts can be found here, distilled into a thoroughly enjoyable, amusing, inspiring and encouraging story of 'what I would have done differently if I had known then, what I know now!'
Clarke's measured and enthusiastic narration of his own short book emphasis his knowledge and advice which makes the guided 'lessons' in developing the Patrol Method and Youth Led Scouting a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you Clarke! Your words have literally changed my approach to Scouting, and in turn, changed the experience of our Scouts into a positive, confident and self-assured journey through Scouting.
