About this listen

Ella Jones knows what to expect from the long, hard winters in the northern reaches of Maine. Mostly boredom and monotony, broken up with a bit of skiing or quality time spent with her family. Which leaves her utterly unprepared for the arrival of Benjamin Kakoa, an ex-football star turned advocate in need of a break from fame and notoriety. For Ella, it's crush at first sight. But with a rocky past and an uncertain future, Ben's walls are tougher to tear down than she ever could have imagined. And once they fall, Ella and Ben will have to come to terms with the potentially tragic reality of their love.

This a something a little different from Navessa Allen. It’s so funny but in some parts but it’s also ‘rip your heart out’ sad too. It still has plenty of sizzling spiciness though 😉 it has some very rough issues in it so please please please check the trigger warnings READERS MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS x

Absolutely awesome ☺️

It sounded like the male character had a lot of pauses during the recording as sometimes even one sentence had different pitches in his voice and mic volumes. Other than that good listen!

It starts off quiet, and I didn’t think it would be my kind of book at first. But as it unfolded, what stood out was how accurately it captured the female brain. The FMC was so relatable. She was awkward, emotional, and deeply relatable in ways that felt uncomfortable. This wasn’t a feel-good read. About 2/3 of the way it took an unexpected turn. It was unsettling in places. I didn’t love it in the traditional sense, but I can’t dismiss it either. If you’re expecting comfort, you may be surprised. If you’re open to read realism, trauma, real feelings, then this is for you.

Not the cosy romance I expected

Overall, a less than solid story but enjoyable. The male narrator's performance, both technical and vocal, was surprisingly subpar, though. I lost track of the number of wonky edits and, overall, his voice just wasn't at the level I would expect from an Allen novel. The female narrator was great, though. The MMC wasn't particularly sympathetic and written in such a way that there was nothing to redeem - he was just a bit of a wet noodle. Not Allen's best, but, also, quite an emotional read with very self-aware characters.

Audio Disappointing, Solid Story
