Summary

“We'll protect him.”

“I don’t want to be the poster boy.”

Hockey player Kevin Shaw, fresh out of university, just signed onto a Toronto team for a year. He knows he isn't innately gifted, but he works damn hard to make up for it. The last thing he needs during his first season of pro hockey is a distraction...but he can't say no when he's asked to train with a sexy friend of a friend. He wants to get better, grab a spot on the third or fourth line, and not let slip any hint of attraction to his new buddy.

“If they see, they see.”

Called up from the minor league to the major league at the end of last season, hockey player Matty O'Brien is secretly terrified he won't hack it. He's quick on his feet on the ice, and he loves living with his buddies and his dog after practice ends. One thing's missing: a relationship. He plays center forward, but he's always the wingman and never the center of attention. The way Kevin watches him makes him feel like the star player.

“He's just jealous of what you and I have.”

A spontaneous kiss sends them both scurrying for shelter, deciding whether they have room in their life for more than friendship. Just as they start to get comfortable, before they can decide what they are, someone finds out their secret. Locker room gossip is annoying for Matty but fatal for Kevin's career if the guys on the team don't shut it down.

Will Kevin gain the maturity and strength to stand up for himself without plunging deep into the closet or risking his career all over again? And can they trust their friends to hold their secrets close?

Kevin and Matty are a total win

Kevin is off to Toronto and he meets Matty. Boy do the sparks fly with these two. Neither want to be the poster boy for the NHL but neither of them can deny the attraction nor the pull to the other. E. Davies certainly has another winner on his hands with this one and I really enjoy the cameo's from the past books.

Michael Pauley once again lends his voice and elevates the story like no one else can. This is certainly a book that needs to be picked up and read and re-read.

Work, Love or Both

Kevin is just out of university and has a year to prove himself. To help him grab the spot he is working hard for, he starts training with Matty. Matty, called up from minor league, is scared they will send him back. After a surprise kiss, they decide they want more than just friendship, but will the gossip make them chose work or love, or is there a way for them to have both?
This is another book that fits the E.Davies style: amazingly written, characters you fall in love with and a lot of heat! The performance is another one that is done so well, that you feel like the characters are there with you (and wish they were). I can't wait for more!

Easy Listen with Michael Pauley

Of course, once again the narrator is over the top... amazing!

This book fits in well with the series. Having listened to 4 books before, this book doesn't really offer anything new. It was just ok for me. None the less, its a cute story.

Enjoy!

Michael Pauley's voice is like liquid gold!

Athletes: check
Hockey players: double check
Both MC's are hockey players: triple check
Riley Brothers series: oh yeah.

I have loved this whole series, and I am so glad there is another one, especially one that is focused on my favorite sport/sub-genre: hockey. Kevin and Matty are both trying to play hockey in the big leagues, and that doesn't really allow for a relationship, let alone a truly out one. They form a friendship before considering attraction which made their chemistry even stronger. All of Matty's friends were awesome, and the drama that did occur wasn't overdone or too angst worthy. This is more of an HFN because the story ended before everything was figured out, but I am hopeful that I will see their how their HEA is working for them when we get the next book (which I am THRILLED to know there is another coming).

The story takes place in Toronto, so we don't get a lot of interaction from the characters from the first 4 books, but they do make an appearance which made me happy. This story could be read as a standalone, but the other 4 were so wonderful that they should be read anyway. :-)

Michael Pauley has a voice like liquid gold. He did these characters so well, and I loved them in this version even more than on paper. Highly recommend the audio version of this series!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

I loved this sweet love story!

Matty and Kevin are hockey players, training together. They are part of the Riley Brothers series, as they're both friends with Cam (Riley Brothers book 1).
I loved how sweet and awkward they both are in approaching their phisical and emotional relationship...
Plus... Hockey! I love hockey love stories and this has all the Ed Davies flare to boot!
Michaul Pauley's narration... what can I add to what's been already said a milion times? Well, Michael is super talented and his voice could melt a mountain of ice in Alaska... that being said, it's always a joy listening to any of his audiobooks!

So sweet

I loved getting to know more about Kevin and Matty. They are such an adorable couple and so much fun. I love the chemistry and the passion between them, both on and off the ice. They both have to navigate through the demands of being professional hockey players and the constraints that comes with that distinction. They want to be open but at the same time are unsure if they want to be the poster boys for the gay side of the league. It’s a delicate tightrope to walk but together they can make it through. I love the support that they have from their team mates and friends no matter what they decide to do. I thought that the narrator did an amazing job with this story and the characters in it.

Hockey Love!

Love this story of Matty and Kevin. Their chemistry and connection are very strong. I love watching their relationship grow even throughout all of the tentativeness. They are a great couple who stand strong together and have a great support system with their true friends who can battle and stand against anyone who wants to ruin them. The narrator is absolutely incredible with this story and really with the entire series. Can't wait for the next one in the series.
