When Michael Moorcock began chronicling the adventures of the albino sorcerer Elric, last king of decadent Melniboné, and his sentient vampiric sword, Stormbringer, he set out to create a new kind of fantasy adventure, one that broke with tradition and reflected a more up-to-date sophistication of theme and style. The result was a bold and unique hero: a rock-and-roll antihero who would channel all the violent excesses of the '60s into one enduring archetype.

Critic reviews
"Indispensable for all Sláine fans" (Life of Die)
"Colin Morgan is brilliant as the brutal yet cunning Slaine, but it's Gerry O'Brien who steals the show as Ukko the Dwarf.... This epic audio hits the spot." (Starburst Magazine)

I had tears in my eyes
I have been a fan of Pat Mills (and Angie k) creation since the mid 80’s. When issue 1 of The Horned God came out I knew it would change comics forever. Pat’s gnostic knowledge was beautifully illustrated by Simon Bisley. It changed my world.
To hear it 30 years later was magnificent(it made me cry)I listened to it again with a copy of the HG graphic novel in hand- it’s the closest we will ever have to see and hear it (ahermmm Amazon prime or Netflix).
I intend to listen to agin and again. The cast was wonderful and they bought it to life.
Kudos to Pat and Simon this production brings further life to a beautiful piece of Art. More Slaine please.

A great version of a classic British comic
this is a great version of the original Pat Mills story from the comic 2000AD and has become known as one of the best comic stories to come from the UK.
This tells the story from the narrator Ukko point of view which helps keep the story flowing with the key scenes played by the rest of the cast . the use of Irish actors in this helps with keeping the story on track and helps with the visuals created whilst listening to the tale, The actor playing Slaine does a excellent job portraying the lead role and doesn't make him sound like an overbearing hero type but just a normal man trying his best for his people and land.
If you are fan of the original comic it may take a while to get use to not having the fantastic art work of Simon Bisley to help visualize the storytelling but stick with it and you will find yourself creating your own visuals as you would with any well played audiobook
One of the best audiobooks I have listened to in a while

I really, really enjoyed this. The Horned God is obviously ba classic and it translates to audio surprisingly well. Colin Morgan makes for a charismatic Slaine. Gemma Whelan was great as Maeve.

Brilliant Adaptation
Brilliant adaptation for Slaine fans, a great introduction for those who are new to the character as well. Cast and narrator are superb and the production and sound is just enough to keep the "audio-movie" aspect that these multi voice recordings have but not so much as to become intrusive. This is an immersive listen, best done in one go with headphones.
This is the second of the new 2000AD range of full cast adaptations I have listened to, both have been 5 stars, I look forward to hearing the others and I hope that there are more to come.

A Must Listen
I am an audio junkie and fan of both Stephen Hogan and the remarkable & underrated skills of Colin Morgan, so this listen was a no-brainer and a real treat. I am new to the world of comics and was fortunate to be gifted a copy of the collector’s edition to view while listening to this stellar collection of talent. From the performers’ seemingly effortless ease at inhabiting the characters and bringing them to life to the immersive sound effects and atmosphere-enhancing score…this was a delight to listen to (in one sitting, I might add).
