Summary

The adventures of Morgan Mackenzie and her sidekick Lulu the Loofah continue!

The [Skyclad Sorceress] has made new friends and discovered she has some enemies. Now, along with the Worldwalker Dana and the survivors of the Expedition, she is working to get out of the Wildlands.

Meanwhile, the Deskren have beseiged Fort Expedition and The General rides with his troops to their relief. He is followed by The Hammer, leading the Children of the First Beast. Certainly an impressive and dangerous force, but will they get to Expedition in time to save the city? If they arrive in time, can they hold the walls until the Tribes arrive?

As the northern continent slips deeper into autumn and winter, the Empire in the south prepares for spring and the planting of crops. Their raiding campaign into the north has not gone well, and tensions are rising as food shortages loom. All is not as it seems in Nouveau Deskra.

Not as good as first book

This book is decidedly average. It was disappointing that there was little focus on the lit RPG side of the world that dominated book 1.
There are still too many people the narrative focuses on. The book isn’t all bad but could have been better

Half the length and a tenth the story

This audiobook is half the length of the first one, seems to have very little happening, revolves around Jacob, and his wife separately, since me secondary characters, and a couple of randos.
Morgan, the protagonist of the story, who’s story I came into this book to follow, is in it so little she might as well not be in it,
The litrpg has disappeared too for this story, except as an aside to mention the archer-turned sniper got better at and gained some levels from practicing sniping.
This doesn’t feel like a sequel at all, it seems like a side-story. Not a particularly compelling one, not the genre I was following for this story, and definitely not a continuation of the story I was following.

Good book but a bit scattered

This was a fun ride but just a bit more scattered than the original.

I believe the author is setting up for the story to expand to a more epic scope, and this means bringing in more characters as well as the focus moving between the many moving parts of the story.

However, what this means is that there’s a lot less time spent with Morgan, the MC.

It’s still more than worth the read however, just be ready for the “cast of thousands” nature of this one, and that you’ll go many chapters before Morgan’s personal story moves forward.

Bit of a letdown but was still enjoyable.

The length of this book was a bit disappointing, especially after the long wait. and sadly it really focused a lot on characters I didn't like/care about. So their chapter's dragged on and on while morgons and the rest of the wildlands expedition seemed to fly by. Also there was no chapters on some characters from the first book which is a bit of a shame.

Love it

I personally really enjoy this series so far
I just a wonderfully written exploration of a foreign world with both light and dark side.
The only gripe I have is the long periods of time away from the main character but I understand the need for those exploration.
Really enjoying I’ll be here for the next

Book should be called the black lance

Way too many points of view, It creates the problem of a massive supporting cast of characters that becomes difficult to keep track of. My biggest complaint is the book is named for a single protagonist and she has maybe 5 very short chapters out of 27. instead we follow Jacob and the people around him for most of this book. Still enjoyed the overall storyline and hopefully the next book can focus more on our skyclad sorcerer.

Meh

Whilst the story had its great moments the main character who I went into this book wanting to follow was relegated to little more than a random guest that would sometimes pop up, the whole arc with the dark lane was just so meh that I struggled to get past it, and then the story just ends, hope the next book in the series redeems this as I do still enjoy Morgan’s story.

A decent second instalment

It’s a good book, would have liked more Morgan in it though. Plus, it feels a little short, like things could have been fleshed out a bit. Too many things happened that warranted character responses that got none.

I’m getting GoT season 8 vibes. I do hope that the sequel addresses this…

Frustratingly short

This is a good book but feels like a small filler instead of a full sequel. Look forward to the next instalment
