I enjoy the Karen Pirie series as they’re set in my local area and the main characters are very believable. However I am finding Val McDermid’s political comments a bit wearing. Okay we know she’s a big pal of Nicola Sturgeon but for the publisher to allow the disgusting statement about Kemi Badenoch allegedly by a ‘comedian’ character is an issue - and this from a Scot who would never vote for that party. The versatility of the narrator is a joy to behold and the only reason I never give her 5 stars is because I wish she would check out the pronunciation of unusual names and words.
