Story
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

Father Damien Karras: 'Where is Regan?' Regan MacNeil: 'In here. With us.' The terror begins unobtrusively. Noises in the attic. In the child's room, an odd smell, the displacement of furniture, an icy chill. At first, easy explanations are offered. Then frightening changes begin to appear in eleven-year-old Regan. Medical tests fail to shed any light on her symptoms, but it is as if a different personality has invaded her body.

And now he wanted to get on to some real writing. That's when the car accident happened, and he woke up in pain in a strange bed. But it wasn't the hospital. The bad news was that she was Paul's Number One Fan.

Gripping and so well read
Where does Shutter Island rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
near the very top! this is one of those books that really does have it all, interesting story, very well written and impeccably read. It's set in an insane asylum which piqued my interest immediately (I find books about the mind so intriguing!) and as you would imagine...all is not as it seems. there are some fabulous twists that I certainly didn't see coming. It is terribly sad in places and can be quite unsettling, the ending is so so good!!!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Chuck... or was it? no spoilers, you'll have to listen to find out!
Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No I haven't but I fully intend to now.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no... I didn't want the book to end as it was so good but I was also desperate to get to the truth with Teddy!
Any additional comments?

One of the best books I've ever listened to. Mystery, action, thriller and a dose of psychology. Lehane makes you feel for the characters, creates picture perfect images in your mind and keeps you hooked right to the end. Narrator does a fine job. What more do you want out of a book?

A brilliant story, brilliantly told
I saw this book as a film years ago on a plane and remember thinking how clever and shocking it was. I wanted to read the book to see if the source material was as good (because books usually are better) and I wasn’t disappointed. Even though I had a vague memory of the story and the ending, it still had me gripped. I couldn’t put it down (or take headphones off!). The narrator is one of the best I’ve heard yet. He really bought something extra to it. Buy it, you’ll not be disappointed.

Gripping dark thriller.
What did you love best about Shutter Island?
The complex characters, particularly Teddy. Haunted by myriad ghosts and has a thinly-veiled brutal nature.
What other book might you compare Shutter Island to and why?
The Magus by John Fowles. As with The Magus, in Shutter Island, reality is not as it appears.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Teddy sets fire to Dr Collies car. Disturbingly, I found this scene quite satisfying!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Definitely. I found Dolores interaction with the children shocking and macabre.
Any additional comments?
A thought-provoking novel.
