Graphic Designer Remi Painter just finished taking a deep breath of satisfaction after acquiring a new design job when his long-time friend and aspiring perfumer, Jamie Sillinger, contacts him in desperate need of help. Jamie just completed perfumery school and is working on a start up when he is accused of murdering an old acquaintance, an act he emphatically denies. But the more Remi and his friends explore Jamie’s past and home laboratory they notice a possible connection to the crime. Meanwhile an angry serial killer with a painful past is on a mission to pin his attacks on Jamie. Can Remi identify motive and save his friend before its too late?

Shattered Lung is an intriguing story told from multiple viewpoints: that of the victims (more than one) a private eye team of investigators, Jamie, the killer, and Demi - this latter reporting on the first person - and the whole is interlaced with the recollections of Junior: the killer's past history which had brought him to the state of mind and decision to murder. It is an interests format but distracting, even confusing, especially given the the narrator, Chris Koprowski, though otherwise good, has a tendency not to pause at the endings of chapters, moving straight into the next without indicating the change. To follow the story, therefore, requires complete concentration (or the rewinding of the book to find out what is happening, especially in the earlier chapters).
