“My favourite series of all time” Goodreads review
Powerless meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this stunningly romantic dystopian YA fantasy.
A fragile young teenage girl is held captive.
Locked in a cell by The Reestablishment – a harsh dictatorship in charge of a crumbling world. This is no ordinary teenager. Juliette is a threat to The Reestablishment's power. A touch from her can kill – one touch is all it takes.
But not only is she a threat, she is potentially the most powerful weapon they could have. Juliette has never fought for herself before but when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, the depth of the emotion and the power within her become explosive …

I loved the main idea of the book, the world sounds like the one of the hunger games, except the main character can kill people with her touch (how cool!). Unlike the hunger games though, the characters in this book clearly do not have their priorities straight. I mean, if you're locked up by your enemy and showering in a place that may have microphones (as mentioned in a chapter before that point) surely you wouldn't be making out with the soldier that's meant to be guarding you? And, my god, they cannot keep their hands off each other! I have a few issues with that: 1) they just met! within about 4 chapters we're hearing about his muscular body with abs or whatever, yet we don't know if we should trust that man, 2) If someone is experiencing proper touch for the first time in their life, after they've killed someone by simply touching them, and after they've lived in fear of touching and killing people, surely they would be so overwhelmed they would not want to be touch so so so much (and oh my god they just can't keep their hands off each other!)
It feels like the author has pushed aside the most important, the most interesting part of the book, in order to have more romance. Clearly the main focus isn't the dystopian world, or how to survive in it, or the horrors that are clearly happening; no, let's hear more about silly Juliette, who's not like the other girls, and big muscles Adam make out whilst they are TRYING TO ESCAPE!
I rolled my eyes so much I have a headache
