Summary

This was a hard book to listen too because of triggers but the narrators brought it to life and made you feel all of the emotions while listening. Considering who the author is I can't be surprised but it was good and truly believe you got the full experience.
Yes, there is a happy ending but the journey is dark, twisted and brings out emotions that leave you feeling bereft of happiness, this book hits the hard truths and reality that some people actually live with. It brings out the cold wash of reality that this actual exists in the world and its not sunshine and roses.
It's brilliant how the author can bring out the anguished feelings and wrap it up I'm a bow at the end. Well done!

**Yes, I'm aware of the trigger warnings but I like to throw caution into the wind and read a book outside of my comfort zone. Welcome to life, not everything can come with warnings, sometimes you just have to take a chance, I'm glad I did**

This book is such a slept on masterpiece. So beautifully written about such horrors! HD Carlton proves once again that she is the queen of dark romance. Also, TOP NOTCH performances from both narrators. Jacob Morgan has such a diverse and beautiful way of narrating different characters and Michelle Sparks is a master at translating every emotion into her angelic voice. 10/10 experience!

I really enjoyed this one. Dual narration definitely makes listening to things a lot better for sure.

DNF as the story was too dragging. Bought it because of JM as I love his narration however sadly his parts were not much at all in the book. Wish it's more. Not a fan of the female narrator. I had to return it. Sorry.

this book had me gripped from start to finish. Everything H.D. Carlton writes I will devour, her story telling is one of the best out there. The way she builds these characters is haunting.
Shallow river is very dark just like her other books. What River goes through on page and hearing about it from her past is harrowing. The man who’s supposed to love her is a sociopath and is terrible to her. Please check your trigger warnings.
I adored her, this woman despite the hell she’s lived through her entire life still manages to fight through it all. She is not weak she fought to get out of the hell that was her childhood only to end up in the hands of an abuser and she still fought through it all, even when her past caught up with her as well. She is a badass.
I loved Mako as well. He knew his brother was an abuser and he did everything he could to help River and be there for her and ultimately showed her how she should be treated.
The two of them together had so much chemistry and the tension between them was so good.
As I said this story had me gripped the plot that ran throughout was horrific but I couldn’t stop reading. I highly recommend this book! I listened to it on audio as well and I adored how the narrators brought it to life.
