Summary

Perfect for fans of Secondborn, The Hunger Games, and Maze Runner, this dark dystopian tale of survival, intrigue, and slow-burn romance will grip you until the very last minute.

My name is Maia Graystone: prisoner, rebel, and reluctant savior of a dying world.

In exactly 552 hours, an asteroid will end life as we know it. Not that my life is anything to brag about. Trapped inside a hellish prison, my days consist of surviving the other inmates and the bounty on my head.

Then a mysterious benefactor offers the impossible: a chance to compete in the Shadow Trials and win a coveted spot on the space station above our dying world.

But the opportunity comes at a steep price. Partner with a dashing psychopath, enter the court that once condemned me to death, survive the ruthless trials created by my own mother, and kill the emperor - the very man who's hunting me.

In this cunning game of life and death, nothing is as it seems and everyone expects me to fail. But they forgot one tiny detail.

Never underestimate the girl with nothing left to lose.

Dare to enter the gritty world of Shadow Fall, where tyrants rule, misfits reign, and antiheroes are tasked with saving the world. If you like enemies-to-lovers romance, high-octane action, and epic themes of good versus evil, you'll binge this roller coaster of emotions late into the night!

One of my favourite books this year

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review. Ignore the other reviews, this is not another hunger games honestly this has to be one of my favourite books I’ve listened to this year. This book pulled me in and made me want to stop what I was doing and just listen and enjoy even though that’s the whole point of audiobooks id you can do other things. 😅 The world that was created and technology was so fascinating especially when you started out in the depths of the pit. The characters were cleverly thought out and each had a purpose and properly fleshed out and meaningful. The plot was well paced and full of intrigue. I just can’t wait for book 2.

Best book I’ve ‘read’ in a long time

Absolutely brilliant, grips you from the start. Great chemistry between all the characters and I just couldn’t stop listening. The narrator is great. Story a bit like hunger games but much better. Can not recommend this book enough. You won’t be disappointed!

Good start to the series!

The book started off a little on the slow side but really started to grab my attention about half way through. I was not a huge fan of the narrator. I felt she rushed it or maybe it was just her voice. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the series

100 % Angst

This book is very intense . Mama is a prisoner just trying to stay alive . There are many twists and turns in this book and a bit of a love triangle . This is my second series by this author and they both have wonderful world building. The narration was spot on and conveyed a lot of angst .

Maya or Everly?

Listened to this one via audiobook and enjoyed the narrator's voice. The character is spinning but really struggles with who she is ( for good reason). I'll have to pick up book 2 soon! Too many ends to tie up to leave it sitting for long! out of all of Audrey's books, this one is my least favorite, but that being said, I have enjoyed all her books so far, so really even my least favorite gets a solid recommendation from me! pick it up!

Interesting idea

This is an honest review in exchange for a free copy of this book. I really liked the idea behind the story line but somewhere in the middle it lost it's spark for me. I enjoy fiction and fantasy and can say I have never read anything like it. The beginning and end where both interesting but the middle was complicated for me.

Absolutely stunning world building

I’m going to be honest, I avoided this book for a bit. Not because I don’t love Audrey Grey (because I REALLY love Audrey Grey) but because I knew this series would break me. I’ve said this in other reviews for Audrey but it especially rings true for Shadow Fall. She has a way of immersing you so deep into a world that you struggle to separate yourself from the characters so when I read the description for Shadow Fall I knew my anxiety was going to be high. And it was... very high. This book is intense in so many ways, but it also grabs your heart, rips it out of your chest, puts it back in and says better luck next time. Combine Audreys amazing gift of character creation with Heather Costas gift of bringing characters to life through narration... Just don’t say I didn’t warn you. Your heart is going to hurt and you’ll be all the better for it I promise.
