Story
London, 1890. The city is ruled by the nobility and the Watch, or so it seems. When an underground organization pursues the alchemical formula to create a soul, bodies begin to pile up, and important figures begin to go missing. Masked men turn the gears of fate, pushing London into a new era where artificial life is only the beginning. Arhyen is the self-declared finest thief in London. The mission was simple. Steal a journal from Fairfax Breckinridge, one of the greatest alchemists of the time. He hadn't expected to find Fairfax himself, with a dagger in his back.

Entertaining, worth a credit
Any additional comments?
Minor issues, but overall, a really captivating storyline and narration. I have binged through the first and second book...and the first is generally better. The second book feels like the third book should have been released immediately behind it, similar to the first in this respect. If you expect to find any unknowns will be revealed in the second book...nope. However, I don't feel cheated, it was fun.
Worth a credit.

Orphan Girl with Powers, Excellent Read
Shadow Blessed
The Shadow Accords, Book 1
By: D.K. Holmberg
Narrated by: Emily Sutton-Smith
This is an excellent audible book! The world building is wonderful. It makes the dreary, and scary world for the young orphan so real. Her mother is killed, her father taken and probably dead. She doesn't know who to trust. She must steal to survive and if caught, she could lose her hand or die. She meets a man and trusts him. He helps her and she finds she has shadow powers. If caught...
It is so good but it is a cliffhanger!!!! ugh! It is so good I have to get the next, darn it! If it wasn't so good I wouldn't. I would give it a 5 star but I am giving it a 4 because of the cliffhanger.
The narrator was amazing! Perfect for all the excitement, emotions, suspense, and voices! Great job!

Very repetitive but a good premise.
The protagonist's inner-dialogue is loaded with unnecessary questions and repetitive musings but the story premise and structure are sound. The narration is somewhat stilted but not to the point of ruining the reading experience. I will give the second installment a try.

I'll continue the series but disappointed with this book
I'm a huge fan of the series the dark ability that is where Carth made a cameo appearance in, and I fell in love with the character. I'm definitely going to read book two, but I have to say book one was very boring and very repetitive. The narrator was absolutely fantastic. I'm definitely looking forward to book 2 but if it's as bad as book one I think I'll drop the series. But I did actually love the series the dark ability

A good start
I finished this book with mixed feelings. I guess the passive aggressiveness around stealing bothered me. I think this author has potential and I will keep reading.
