This is a truly wonderful romance novel. My heart ached for the main characters (who have both been abused in the past) and I loved reading about how they found their way together. Beauty is so brave and such a straight talker, whilst also being gentle and unassuming. I really appreciated how open and direct she was with Shadow. Too many romance novels rely on silly miscommunications, but Beauty ensured that didn't happen in this book. Shadow was a bit harder to get to know. He was somewhat closed off emotionally, and I loved how he bloomed and was so loving and protective towards Beauty. He came into his own in the second half of the book and I adored how he started calling Beauty 'love' even before they'd properly discussed the future of their relationship. The ending was very satisfying too.

The narrator - Vanessa Chambers- is excellent, quite possibly the best narrator I've ever heard. She does wonderful voices for both the male and female characters. She is so talented. I could listen to her all day and wish she'd narrated more books!

My favourite quote: "I'm scared all the time but I'm more afraid of wasting the life I've been given by never taking chances. I have enough regrets."

I enjoyed this more than a few of this series. The narrator’s voice for the characters was good, and the story was interesting and sweet without being cheesy.

I absolutely loved this book! I really felt for Beauty as she was told she'd have freedom but she didn't not really as she was always treated as though she'd break so it was good to see her rebel a bit and stand up to the others. So happy that her and Shadow got together - their similar treatment / past experiences helped them understand the other and strenghtened their bond. The narrator did another great job with the voices and it was good to have some action in this book, after the quiet one before it. Looking forward to finishing the series

One of my favourite of the books as it is less like the others. A different story that although it does have many of the features of the series, is different enough to be to set it above previous books. Beauty is interesting & it is great to see her change & grow. Shadow is enough species to be sexy. Although he is not my favourite (Slade rules) he is not annoying like some. A good story
