About this listen
One man’s adventures in pursuit of an eccentric relative, hidden away in the lost Lancashire village of Little Snogging by The Bus Stop.
What would you do if you’d been christened Amer by parents with the surname Head?
How about changing your name to Martin? Especially if your eccentric widowed father has just ‘resigned from the position’. It seems Martin’s real father might be his uncle, which is dubious, given his sexuality. And not easy to investigate, as Uncle Teddy hasn’t been in touch for over ten years.
There are multiple secrets to uncover once Martin arrives in Little Snogging by The Bus Stop – where no-one owns a mobile phone, or pays tax of any description!
Martin discovers the village was granted independence from the UK over two hundred years ago by King George III, but what is the connection between our present Royal Family and an exclusive beer called Royal Pissup? Why are there so many identical twins, and will the Biggest Secret of all turn out to be Martin’s?

I admit, I was a bit thrown off by the term “snogging” since I hadn’t heard it before, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the story. It was a little tricky to keep track of all the characters at times, but by the end, they all came together.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at certain lines, like when Amer/Martin learns that the man he thought was his father isn’t - he refers to him as his “former father.” And there was another funny moment when Amer/Martin, a photographer, tries to jazz up his work to hide his embarrassment over a crush on a young lady.
His journey to find his real father takes some unexpected turns when he heads to the quirky town of Secret Snogging By the Bus Stop, where time feels as if it has stood still.
All in all, it’s a cheerful, funny story, brilliantly crafted by the author, Alan Veale, and brought to life by the incredibly talented voice actors!!
I enjoyed listening to it on my road trip!
I hope you will too!
