About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Get ready for your next reading obsession, the spicy small-town romance filled with mystery and suspense from the bestselling author, perfect for fans of Elsie Silver and Colleen Hoover.

When I first met Kyler Blackwood, he was a bruised and battered boy with fire in his eyes and nowhere safe to land.

Since the first time he kissed me, he became my best-kept secret, my quiet rebellion, my haven in the storm. Until fate forced us apart, making us pretend to be strangers.

Years later, time hasn't dulled our instant connection, or erased the way we fit together.

We were never meant to cross the line. And tell ourselves this arrangement is only temporary. But with each passing day, the lie starts to feel more like the truth. And, with every stolen touch, Kye feels more like mine. Because some things were never meant to be pretend.

But there are secrets that refuse to remain buried. And some dangers are closer than we ever imagined. . .

Connor Crais and Stella Hunter did a phenomenal job of bringing Ky and Fallon's characters and story to life. I felt every feeling through their tone and emotional performance.

what a finish to the series. This was such a beautifully written story that brought me to tears multiple times! I loved how Catherine wrote the foster sibling plot without making it awkward or uncomfortable. I loved the representation of the importance of social work and what children are exposed to, it was accurate. I loved the healing both between Fallon and Ky but between the children too.

There are so many twists in this one, definitely kept me on my toes. It has open door spice - 🌶️🌶️.

This was a lovely finale to a series I’ve really enjoyed. At its heart is a slow‑burn built on years of unrequited love and quiet longing, Fallon carrying feelings she never voiced, and Kyler holding himself back out of loyalty, timing, and all the reasons he thought he shouldn’t want her. That history gives the forbidden edges and romantic suspense an emotional depth that really works, especially as the danger around them forces everything they’ve avoided into the open. I did feel a few things became repetitive across the series: Lolly’s art dialogue, the recurring profiler involvement, and the predictable security‑system upgrades that appear in every book. By this point, those beats felt a little overused. Even so, I was fully invested. The emotional arc landed, the romance delivered, and it wrapped up the series in a satisfying way.
Dual style narration was great.

you're missing a real treat if you don't start at the beginning of the series. this series is found family at its best. the relationships between the siblings is written so naturally and I love the family chat group. it's one of those series you read/listen to and by the end you just feel like part of the family. i loved all the characters and there stories and the way family members are featured throughout each couples book, their conversations are authentic, healing and just...well written. I devoured this book over 2 days and I highly recommend the series.

a perfect ending to a great series

This book is beautiful, heartbreaking but full of hope. My absolute favourite in the series, although I loved them all.
