Summary

"Has your life here been so difficult? You seem to fail upward at every opportunity."

So says Careena, the hag teaching Clyde Hatchett how to use magic. It certainly doesn't feel like that to Clyde, who's still got a day job scraping mud (at least he hopes it's mud) out of monster pits, and whose "thieves' guild" is more concerned with baking cookies than with protecting him against a rival gang. He keeps accumulating roommates - like a freed sex slave and a retired paladin - who make him nervous, but for very different reasons. And let's not get started on the mimic that's taken up residence by Clyde's shower, or the supposedly tame grimeling in his closet....

And yet even with all the annoyances, distractions, and occasional death threats, Clyde's found himself at the center of a massive conspiracy to kill the Emperor. He's the only one with proof that could save the man, and take down an entire network of corrupt nobles, evil slavers, and power-hungry despots. Clyde really hopes Careena is right about him - the fate of the entire Empire depends on it.

I preferred the first book

I love the author, the world is great and I am really interested to see what happens next. I did prefer the first book as the MC felt a bit more railroaded than in the first book, which I prefer.

Awesome story, even better series

Eric Ugland has been writing some of the best recent stories they're engaging, sincere characters. Generally, the characters Ugland writes about are like many of the people I know in my personal life. The most fun characters in this story and series all have just a tiny bit of larceny in their hearts but at their core are good and decent people. Good story telling.

can't stop listening

this continues the story of Clyde hatchet as he gets deeply involved in learning his craft. and thrown into politics. well done adventure, world building, and characters-- all of them are exceptional!!! I highly recommend!! (I'd wrote a lengthier review but it would spoil things -- READ IT)

Eric doesn't disappoint another great book

Again another great book in the guys series I didn't want say good or bads since I believe it the all be tying in together. Was at 1 point drinking a soda when the author talks about one of the guards doing what any guard would do what any guard would ever do. And then he ran away screaming . I was drinking soda at the time I blea mountain pew out of my nose it was very painful but very funny. Good time can't wait to see how they tie to together.

A great read good pace hated to see an end

I Tend to enjoy the fish out of water type stories where people have to learn their new environment. This may prejudice me to these books.. I also like the romanticism of the rogue type character. And medium fantasy of violence is not a problem for me I hope you enjoy Mr. Ugland books as much as I do.

Great Series

If you loved The Good Guy Series, you will love this one. I highly suggest you ignore the summary of what this book is about cause it's very wrong. I think the author had it as a place holder and never updated it.

Is that a bug on my windshield?

Nope, just a dagger in my eye. Props to Eric Ugland on another excellent book in this series. This and 'The Good Guys' series are so good, I wish they were written a few years back so I could binge-listen to them. Lots of stealthy pursuits, court intrigue the loss of what seemed to be key 2nd tier players. Neil Hellegers' performance is perfect for these series.

Can't Wait for 3rd book!

Love Ugland's style and other series. Funny without trying to be and just dark enough that I don't get bored. great book. Not spoiler per se, but why would the MC not have latched on to the warning that the 1st player he met in book 1 about the ability to change spawn point. Seems to be a theme in some of the recent LitRPG which I am not a fan of IMHO.
