About this listen

The fifth novel in the bestselling and award-winning Graceling Realm series focuses on Hava, Queen Bitterblue's spy, and her harrowing journey back to Monsea after the events of 2021's Winterkeep.

In the immediate aftermath of the events of Winterkeep, Bitterblue and her entourage begin the journey back to Monsea with the only copies of the formulas for the zilphium weapon. Bitterblue must decide what she will do with her world-shaping power. But before they've even made it halfway home, storms drive their ship off course and then they wreck in the ice far north of the Royal Continent. The survivors must make a harrowing trek across the ice in order to make it back to Monsea.

Seasparrow is told entirely from the point of view of Hava, Bitterblue's personal spy and secret half sister. And while Bitterblue grapples with how to carry the responsibility of a weapon of mass destruction, Hava must decide what she will do with herself in the new world Bitterblue will make.

I hesitantly bought this book after reading all the others which I loved. Reviews were very mixed with lots of people saying the pace wasn’t as good and the story was only from one POV so I was nervous about this one. However, I found it very engaging, the story was interesting, the characters were well drawn out and I thought it rounded out the story from previous books. There wasn’t a big reveal in this book, but it’s not that kind of story. Still a really good read from Kristen cashore .

Different to the other books, but still very good.

I loved this book and would highly recommend it! I wasn't expecting this adventure after the previous books in this series but it was a perfect progression in this world that Kristin Cashore has built for us. the characters are so well done. the emotion makes you really feel like you are living the book yourself as the main character.

another brilliant book by Kristin Cashore!

I liked how each book in the series develops the characters and story lines with depth and complexity of characters.

When I first heard that this entire book was from the perspective of just one of the characters I was a little sceptical.
But its such a great read.
I loved how Hava develops and matures throughout the novel.
Plus all the little plot twists and turns. I couldn't get enough. I was genuinely gutted when it ended. I'm hoping it's not too long of a wait for book 6.

As with all the other books in the series, Emma does a great job of narrating it.

A great book in a great series
