He thought he lost her decades ago.

Half-demon, half-dragon shifter Ian McCabe is hell-bent on getting back the only woman he's ever loved. When Fiona O'Riley kicked him out of her life decades ago, he thought she was gone for good. Now that she's back, nothing will stop him from claiming her. But she wants nothing to do with him - or his family.

She'll do anything to save him.

Fiona knows that Ian is the only male for her. The only way to keep him alive is to stay away from him. But when tragedy strikes and they discover a wicked agenda for the mass murder of humans, they must work together to take down the enemies that threaten everyone. But there's so much more on the line. As their undeniable desire intensifies, they're faced with an unbearable choice. If Fiona and Ian succumb to their temptation, mating could be the last thing they ever do.

Reunited after 50 years apart!

Any additional comments?

For me this was one of the best of the series!

Ian a half dragon half demon shifter and Fiona a full dragon shifter had been lovers and was intending to mate 50 years ago but was cruely ripped apart by Fiona's family who considered Ian to be inferior due to his demon blood. Ian had been told that Fiona had mated another dragon meaning there was no future for them so he left the area, little did he know that Fiona refused to go through with her familys plans so they locked her in chains for a year and by the time she was released Ian had well and truely disappeared.

There was plenty of action going on with more story telling and we got to catch up with some of the couples & characters from the previous stories.

Shifter romance.

What did you like most about Saved by Darkness?

I think I have probably read almost all of Katie Reus's books. Each one becomes my favorite as I start a new one. I had read this one before I listened to the audible version so I was familiar with it. That added to my pleasure in listening to the recording. Second readings of a book always fill in gaps of memory and increase absorption of the text. it was a very enjoyable experience. It was exciting sexy and romantic with just a touch of sadness that thankfully did not last long. Another winner in my estimation.

'A-' rating...

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.5
Story: 4.25

Even dragon shifters need a second chance at love. (Sorry, I just had to.) But seriously, this is a good book just because I am such a sucker for a good second chance at love. Fifty years ago, Fiona and Ian were involved, but her family would never accept a mating between them so she sacrificed herself so he could move on with his life, never expecting to see him again.

So, it's a shock to both of them when they find one another living in the same area of the country...in the area of Finn's wolf pack area. While they knew that they missed the other, neither one realized the depth of those feelings that have never let go. And suddenly they are joining together to head into the hell realm. (Yeah, this series is NEVER lacking for action.)

And they aren't alone...all the characters from the other books show up in this one, too...along with another new half-demon brother (yes, please!)

This is a fun series. It's seriously action packed and while the books aren't super-long, they pack a good level of emotion. I'm really enjoying listening to them all on audio. But don't worry...you can easily pick and choose which ones to read if you don't want to tackle the whole series. The author has done an amazing job of explaining the world good enough in every book that you'll never be confused whether you're reading book #1 or #6.

She was his life, his everything.

What did you love best about Saved by Darkness?

I loved everything about Saved by Darkness. IF I had to hone in on anything, it would be the characters. They were beyond fabulous!

Saved by Darkness is the second-chance-at-love story of half-dragon/half-demon Ian McCabe and dragon Fiona O’Riley and is told from several third person perspectives in the present day and with flashbacks from the past. Ian is the only male Fiona has ever loved and that she still loves. But, her family has forbidden her to have anything to do with him. She has and will do anything to keep him safe.

Ian is alpha through to his core. He’s powerful and a scary fighter – not a creature to cross. Even so, he shows heart-rending tenderness with Fiona and, even though it’s not in Ian’s nature to follow, he is remarkably controlled and exhibits amazing finesse in his dealings with Finn and the Stavros Pack.

Fiona is also an impressive creature – but she has a sweetness in her make-up. She sacrificed everything for Ian’s safety and has since worked tirelessly at running a shelter for abused and battered supernatural females. The shelter sits on the periphery of the Stavros Estate, run by the shifter alpha Finn Stavros.

Previous favorite characters in the series play strong supporting roles in this tale. Fans will enjoy catching up with them. There is also a secondary story line between the Stavros pack healer Ophelia and Gray, a sculpting wolf-shifter.

What other book might you compare Saved by Darkness to and why?

The previous books in Katie's Darkness series are more of the same greatness. They all feature thrilling romantic tales encompassing an incredible mix of paranormals including dragons, wolf-shifters, demons, demi-gods and vampires. Even though this is the sixth installment in Katie’s Darkness series and there are interconnected characters shared with the previous books, Saved by Darkness can easily be enjoyed without hearing or reading the previous books in the series. That actually holds true for any of the books in this series. That said, I would recommend reading this series in order, if possible. Doing so will give readers a better understanding of the primary and supporting characters and the whys and wherefores of their interactions.

Have you listened to any of Jeffrey Kafer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to Jeffrey Kafer before. He has very capably narrated the entire series-to-date. His delivery is vivid and polished as he brings each character to life with voices and inflections that sound genuinely realistic. His narration is extremely clear and easy to understand and follow. He differentiates between the characters to where I experienced no issue whatsoever knowing who is speaking at any time. Without a doubt, his performance enhanced my enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend the audios in this series to both audiophiles and audio- newbies.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

“Would you want to live without me?”
Tears flowing freely, she shook her head.
“Then don’t expect me to live without you."

Any additional comments?

Saved by Darkness is a great book as is the norm from Katie Reus. She seamlessly blends paranormal romance, suspense and danger incorporating a myriad of surprising twists and turns into addictive perfection! Believe me, there is not one boring second in the entire book as I was captivated straight through to the emotional roller coaster ending. The next book in the Katie’s phenomenal Darkness world will be Gabriel’s, the Stavros Pack’s Guardian's story. I honestly can’t wait!

Best Dragon shifter series ever

I love this series, I love the writing, the plot and I love the narrator Jeffrey Kafer. His voice is just perfect for this series.
In this book six, we follow Ian McCabe, whom was first introduced in Hunted by Darkess and again in Into the Darkness as one of Bo and Rory’s siblings (Book 4&5 heroes). Ian has always been ashamed of his heritage as half demon and half dragon. The demon side has been the cause of scorn but most painful loss was his mate Fiona O’Riley who married another to save him over fifty years ago.

A chance meeting revealed that she did not in fact marry another but lives within the Stavros’ wolf territory. Now he has to convince her that they finally belong together.
I love second chance romance tropes. They often allow the author to properly develop character’s past. The reader has a chance to get to know the main characters and properly empathize with their plight. Ian and Fiona didn’t disappoint. They were young lovers fighting against family obligation and expectation.
As with the prior books, Saved by Darkness was full of action and romance. In addition, there were humorous banter between Ian and his brothers. In fact, the reader met yet another half demon brother. I love how the author continues to link each story together by maintaining contact with the previous couples. The stories are not overly long and my attention is continually engaged.

I am a big fan of Jeffrey Kafer and the superb job he has done narrating this series. He has never caused me to be confused. He gives life to each character and I am able to follow very easily. I really recommend listening to this series in order so you can appreciate the journey each story undertook to get to this point. I love this series and I can’t wait until the next story.
If you love action packed, super sexy with really captivating characters, this is the series for you.

Great Book!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book; this is the sixth book in the Darkness series written by Katie Reus and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer. Half-demon, half-dragon shifter Ian McCabe is hellbent on getting back the only woman he’s ever loved. When Fiona O’Riley kicked him out of her life decades ago, he thought she was gone for good. Now that she’s back, nothing will stop him from claiming her. But she wants nothing to do with him or his family. Fiona knows that Ian is the only male for her. The only way to keep him alive is to stay away from him. But when tragedy strikes and they discover a wicked agenda for the mass murder of humans, they must work together to take down the enemies that threaten everyone.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises.
The narrator Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job with this book. He did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Awesome Addition to Series!

Saved by Darkness. (Darkness Series – Book 6) by Katie Reus. This is an excellent paranormal series. It has anything a paranormal romantic suspense reader could want – shifters, vampires, demons, demi-gods – you name it you can probably read about it in this world. I would recommend reading the other books in this series first – you will get a better understanding of the characters, secondary characters and their interactions. Ian McCabe – half dragon/half demon has loved Fiona O’Reilly for decades. He is determined to win her back and to discover the reason she rejected him so many years ago. Fiona, willing to sacrifice her love to keep Ian safe does what she has to do. However, as an enemy emerges and Ian and Fiona work together to save humans from destruction will this be their new beginning or the beginning of the end for them? Ms. Reus does a great job with the characters in this book. I could revisit the Darkness World that she has created over and over. I look forward to more books in this series.

As usual Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job! He brings the characters to life and his narration of the book is superb. He seems to have an understanding of the book and the characters and that shows in his telling of the story. I listened in the car on a road trip and it made the time fly by.
