Summary

Josie flinches as she takes in the faded blue sports jacket wrapped around the girl they just pulled from the water. Josie knew someone who’d once owned that jacket. He had died in her arms five years ago.

Heavy rain pours on the small town of Denton, causing the riverbanks to break and the body of a young girl to float quietly to the surface. With no crime scene to examine, the odds are against Detective Josie Quinn and her team. Mercifully, the victim’s body is perfectly preserved, right down to the baseball patch on the jacket she is wearing. Josie can’t hide her devastation - her dead ex-husband, Ray, owned one just like it.

Following the trail back to her high school, Josie identifies the girl as Beverly Urban, a troubled student rumored to have been dating Ray before she left town for good. It looks like a tragic accident until the autopsy reveals a bullet in her head and the heartbreaking secret she was keeping.

Josie visits the salon where Beverly’s mother used to work, believing she was at the heart of a terrible scandal around the time her daughter’s life was taken. With the Denton wives remaining tight-lipped, Josie’s only hope is a secret meet-up with a terrified woman willing to talk. But she is murdered moments before giving Josie crucial information. It’s clear that someone is prepared to keep on killing to stop the truth from getting out.

Digging deep into memories of her own past with Ray is the only advantage Josie has on this twisted killer...but at what cost?

Another jaw-dropping crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal best-selling author that will have you absolutely gripped. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni, and Rachel Caine.

What am I going to do now?!

I’ve listened one after the other and now they’re finished. Yes, they are a little farcical if you dissect them, but I didn’t. I just enjoyed them. The characters were likeable and developed well. The stories interesting although sometimes I thought “what?!” as the characters are also prone to say.

Again, I’d definitely advise that they be read/listened to in order. I worried when the narrator changed after the first few books but they were both excellent. I would advise people not to move to a town called Denton! Which is apparently small and homely with what must be an extremely large cemetery.

Excellent escapism. Thank you to the author and narrators for bringing the characters to life, providing me with an entertaining week and a half. I miss them already.

Twists and turns

I really enjoyed this story, well read, with lots of twists and turns. It had a surprise ending that I hadn’t guessed.

Love Josie/ Can't get Enough!

Another great hit!
Josie just keeps getting more interesting. She's flawed but evolving personally and professionally. As this most recent quest for justice plays out in the midst of intense flooding and leads that are over a decade old, she overcomes obstacles to a story with twists and turns you won't see coming.

Buried secrets...

It’s always great catching up with Josie, Noah, Gretchen and Met...also, of course, Josie’s grandmother and her husband’s son & mama. Life is complicated in Josie’s world. Now Josie is investigating a 16yo murder with possible ties to her dead ex, Ray. As if that doesn’t tie her up in knots...her grandmother throws a curveball. This is another great mystery that will keep you wondering what’s next!! Excellent performance by the narrator.
Looking forward to the next book.

Love Josie Quinn

Again love the story.
Love the characters.
But, hate the narrator.
It's like listening to high schoolers read reports out loud.
If you didn't like Kate Handford on the pass, she hasn't gotten better

Phenomenal

I was able to imagine myself watching the entire book happen as I read. Being a former lifeguard (no spoiler but all I say is... pants) and have lived in a flooded town, wow! I promise you NEVER guess Who-Dun-It, and when you think you know...BOOM, she throws another twist! Absolutely phenomenal!

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley from Bookouture. I'll be honest, I read my advanced copy in advanced, but had to list to it on release day via Audible!

Give me more!

I have been following this series from the start. Honestly, this is the best one so far! The entire series is wonderful. If you haven’t tried one, what are you waiting for? Josie Quinn is so easy to relate to. All the characters are well-rounded and interesting. Of course, Trinity is in a class of her own!
