Summary

Omegas for alphas, and betas for betas...

Ori and Patton have been best friends since they were pups. But growing up changes everything - Ori must settle on an alpha to mate, while Patton takes on the beta's work of maintaining the walled enclave their pack lives within.

They try to make the best of it, until a wealthy suitor comes calling for Ori, and they realize neither of them can face a future without the other. And on a moonless night, Ori and Patton escape over the enclave walls, breaking both shifter and human law in their determination to reach the sanctuary of Mercy Hills.

Hunted by their own people and forced into a dangerous masquerade among the humans, their original plan - so simple and direct - turns into a twisted path toward a promise of freedom that might not even exist. Because, Mercy Hills doesn't know they're coming, and the trouble they're bringing to the enclave's doorstep may be more than those already beset shifters are willing to bear.

Finding out Ori is pregnant makes their mission that much more urgent. Omegas never mate with betas, let alone have pups with them. If their pack finds the two lovers, they'll be separated forever. But the pack never reckoned with the determination of a beta in love or the stubbornness of an omega determined to keep his mate and his baby.

Please note: This is a side story in the Mercy Hills Universe that takes place in the space between Legally Mated and Omega's Flight. It it not necessary to listen to this book to enjoy the main series.

Outstanding

What a fabulous journey this book takes us on, not a Mercy hill pack but these two men are making their way to this safe heaven anOmgea and a Beta needs to get to there salvation to have the life they both want....wonderful world building that takes you on their journey with ups and downs, if possible I would have given it more stars. Nick J Russo has done another outstanding job with this story and characters giving it a depth that reading didn't do.

quite the adventure

I loved the story, Ori and Patton really take you along for the ride. you get to meet them as pups and are taken on an emotional rollercoaster because these two clearly love each other but can't be together because Patton is a beta and Ori an omega and they just don't mate. alphas for omegas and betas for betas is what they are thought repeatedly. they have to fight for their love and have to make some big decisions with big consequences. another awesome story by Ann-katrin Byrde.
and I love the narrator. he's one of my favorites.

So Sweet! NJR is Wonderful!

What an absolute delight!

A super sweet story about an omega and a beta, friends from birth, who have to hit the road in order to be together. They have quite a road trip, trying to blend in as human, evade their pack members, and build their relationship.

Ann-Katrin Byrde builds an interesting world here. I enjoy the idea of the shifters living separated by humans, and the details Byrde includes are quite entertaining.

The audio version is performed by Nick J. Russo who does a marvelous job! His range of voices is amazing - the characters go from young boys to adults and he has a distinct voice for all of them.

Part of the Mercy Hills universe

The author gifts their readers/ listeners with an emotional best friends to lovers story. Nick J Russo brings this Beta/ Omega story to life and I can hardly wait for the next Mercy Hills story, because the combination of Ann-Katrin Byrd’s and Nick J Russo is a guaranteed good time.

Ori and Patton

A pack with old traditions, makes Ori’s love for his best friend Patton impossible. Betas don’t mate with Omegas. But Mercy Hills seems to be a light in the darkness. Ori and Patton’s love is pure and has been forever. Ori doesn’t understand why they can’t be together. But it’s so strong that it stands the test of time and takes them on a difficult journey to freedom. Loved their happily ever after. The narrator does a great job.

Different narrative to the usual A/O world

I love Ori and Patton's story, getting to know them as they grow up was wonderful.
I love that they weren't the traditional Alpha and Omega pairing and how they fought for their love.
Nick Russo did a wonderful job narrating,
I loved the transition in his characters from childhood to adults.
I was absolutely captivated and engaged.

as great as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Nick J Russo is one of the top 5 narrators for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.
I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

So enjoyable

I think this is one of my top ten favourite MM reads. I have already read the book 3 times, so I just enjoyed listening to the audiobook this time. And what an enjoyable listen it is.

Despite knowing the book well, I was on the edge of my seat at times from both the excellent storyline and the narration. Nick J. Russo reads with real emotion when required, but is all in for the fun times too. I love how Patton's voice matures and becomes deeper as time progresses while Ori's voice portrays so much of what he is feeling. Nick reads clearly and steadily, important for someone with hearing loss. I had no problem, either, with distinguishing different character voices.

This book was the first Mpreg romance I read with a beta and omega couple, and it opened me up to searching away from the Alpha/omega norm.
